Sticky Posts!
Regular updates are what blogging’s all about, but sometimes you want to keep hot topics or other static info at the top of your posts. This feature has existed as Sticky Topics in the forums, but hasn’t been available on blogs. Until now.
In the publishing options for each post you’ll now see “Stick this post to the front page.”
Check that box, click Publish and — ta da! — your post is highlighted at the top of your blog, where it will stay until you decide otherwise.
When your fresh stuff gets stale, just edit the post and uncheck the box. Click Save and it’s back to its place in chronological order.
Pretty fantasticky.

Too bad only the new Albeo theme supports a sticky post with a different colour from the others…
September 8th, 2008 at 6:02 pm
Actually many of the themes use a different color for the sticky style. Some simply use a different color for the post title. Each theme does it a little differently.

I have been tooling about with wordpress for about a year. In that time it’s ease of use and features rating for my mind has gone through the roof. WordPress really is the best blogging tool!

Just tried it out with my blog using Contempt theme, but it doesn’t look right. The post’s title has a blue background but the rest of the post looks normal. It doesn’t look right. Has anyone had any luck with Contempt?
September 8th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
Each theme has the sticky posts styled differently.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
Wow that’s what I’m talking about.lol
Thanks
September 8th, 2008 at 10:08 pm
Brilliant, dudes: suitably impressed.
Now, a suggestion: can we have stickies that time out, please – instead of having to remember to go back in and de-sticky the post, how about an expiry date option so that the post de-stickies itself after a set deadline? I guess the default option should be sticky for ever, but to be able to make a post sticky for a preset period: that would be truly awesome!
Yes, I know, I’m a lazy sod who wants it all — but hey, that’s why I’m with WordPress
Thanks guys!
September 8th, 2008 at 10:09 pm
I waited for this to come – thanks a lot. Keep, keep, keep going …
September 8th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
is there a way that you can just have the name of the post as a sticky not the whole post????
September 8th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
Sure, use the more tag as the first thing in your post before any text.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:33 pm
I’m impressed. One of these days, I’ll send separate emails – by topic – to several of the hardworking staff who keep us all happy with the progress made in WordPress. If I wasn’t busy keeping up my share of Posts on my personal blog – and doing the same on the “big blog” I edit – I’d really enjoy a discussion on where WordPress and AutoMattic are going.
For now, once again, my compliments to the chef.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:50 pm
