Subscribe to Comments
Have you ever left a comment and forgot to check back later for replies? It would be great if you could track all the comments left by others wouldn’t it?
Now you can. When you leave a comment on a WordPress.com blog, check the Notify me of followup comments via email checkbox before submitting and you will receive an email notification every time someone else leaves a comment on that post.
It’s a great feature for readers as it makes it so easy to be part of the conversation around a post. It’s also a win for blog authors as it encourages people to return and comment. This feature definitely increases traffic to blogs and makes blogs more interactive for visitors.
You can view the posts you’re subscribed to, and do various housekeeping tasks like unsubscribing, blocking notifications, or changing email address (if you’re not logged in) from the “Manage your subscriptions” link. It’s also there in the Dashboard when you’re logged in.
There are no switches to pull or buttons to push to switch it on. It’s already enabled on all blogs.
This feature is based on the excellent Subscribe To Comments plugin by Mark Jaquith (originally by Scriptygoddess) but has been extensively reworked to accommodate the different needs of the multi blog environment on this site. I’ll be in touch with Mark soon about releasing the code, but it might take a week or two.

it is real wonderful
January 11th, 2009 at 8:25 am
Great then! At least any one who has commented might be able to receive messages through their emails. Great. Job well done! I must say I must commend WordPress Staff fort his feature. So far, WordPress is the best blogging world for me….!
January 11th, 2009 at 9:27 am
Thanks for adding this, WordPress! I’m always happy when you find new ways to increase my traffic!!
January 11th, 2009 at 10:37 am
Hi Think it’s a great idea. Although I haven’t recieved any comments as yet! I am sure that it would be nice to be notified, if I am out here surfing. I could check it out now instead of as much as a week later.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:24 am
Great thing! I will still use “my comments”, but it’s great for encouraging more traffic to my blog. SOmeone actually commented on that a few weeks ago, and said that it was “the first shortcome of wordpress vrs blogger that he had run across”.
If you can make blogger comments turn up on my “my comments” it would be great. In the meanwhile I created a blogger account with only one blog post referring people to my wordpress blog. That way I can comment blogger blogs as another blogger and subscribe to comments with my gmail.
January 11th, 2009 at 11:32 am
cool! This will help alot. Ta WP!
January 11th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Doing a little happy dance because this makes life so much easier for anyone who comments on more than one blog a day. =)
In fact, I just posted about my happiness about the added feature.
Thank you, WordPress guys, you rock!

Great Idea! Thanks Donncha…keep up grading!
January 12th, 2009 at 3:07 pm
This is a great feature, thanks! Looks like there is a bug, though, as one of my readers emailed me and said he’s getting all the comments from my site, not just for the one post he subscribed to. And he couldn’t unsubscribe — he gets an errors that he needs a key to do it. So he’s resorted to temporarily blocking all donotreply@wordpress.com emails.
But hopefully that will be fixed today?
Thanks for all your work, guys. Can’t wait for threaded comments with voting!
January 13th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
Yes, that issue should be fixed. If any of your readers continue to have trouble, please ask them to contact Support.

How about a RSS feed on all comments I make anywhere on WordPress?
I get way too many emails to add any more so I switch all that I can to RSS.
Thanks
Ed
January 23rd, 2009 at 12:18 pm
Interesting. I’m not sure how many people would find a My Comments RSS feed useful, but I will forward your suggestion along to our developers.
January 17th, 2009 at 4:46 am

January 18th, 2009 at 5:52 pm

January 18th, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Some time ago there was the ability for “track comments” to show up in feed readers for each post. I have seen it on some WP.com but have it appear on only one of my blogs and then only until some time after July of this year.
January 23rd, 2009 at 12:30 pm
Each theme at WordPress.com is a little different. Some may have a prominently displayed comment feed link, and others may not. You can get the comment feed for any post by adding “feed” to the end of the post URL. For example, the comment feed for this post is http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2009/01/09/subscribe-to-comments/feed/
January 18th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
This great new brainstorm
January 19th, 2009 at 1:13 am
Awesome, thanks a lot!
January 19th, 2009 at 2:05 am
thank u guys.
January 19th, 2009 at 7:55 am
since you started working on comments with this new feature, is there any possibility that in the future you’ll even insert a clickable smilies function in the comments?
you know, most people don’t know about the http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/04/what-smilies-can-i-use/
page and having clickable smilies above the comment window would make it much easier to insert them.
January 19th, 2009 at 10:20 pm
Great job done..
Thnks,
January 19th, 2009 at 11:25 pm
I’d like to see the option to respond to someone’s comment, rather than post a comment generally. To have a notification via e-mail when someone responds to a comment I’ve left would be more beneficial to me, than to recieve an e-mail stating a new comment has been added to a post in general.
Perhaps this is a feature already that I’m just not aware of?
January 23rd, 2009 at 12:32 pm
The ability to reply to comments by email is in the works. Watch http://en.blog.wordpress.com/ for updates.
January 20th, 2009 at 7:11 am

February 6th, 2009 at 12:19 am
Users must be logged in and check off the subscription box to subscribe.
January 20th, 2009 at 1:15 pm

January 21st, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Is there any possibility of having the subscribe to comments option checked by default?
January 23rd, 2009 at 12:37 pm
That’s pretty unlikely. You must opt in by checking the box.
