New Theme: Vigilance
Today we bring to you a fresh new theme from Jestro Themes. Meet Vigilance:

Vigilance has a super-special set of features, which you can access under Appearance > Vigilance Options after you’ve activated the theme under Appearance > Themes. These include:
- Customizable colors: You set the background color, border color, link color, and link hover color.
- Alert box: A special feature just for this theme, the optional alert box appears at the top of the page and can contain an announcement or other notice that you want to keep prominent on your blog.
- Hidden pages: Enter the page ID numbers of the pages you don’t want to display, and they’ll be hidden from the menu at the top of your blog.
Vigilance also has a custom image header and special widget options. You can display one wide sidebar or two thin sidebars on your blog. As always, you control the look of your blog by adding and removing widgets under the Appearance > Widgets menu. But now, special to Vigilance: If a sidebar doesn’t contain any widgets, it simply disappears.

I like it a lot. I liked the journalist, but I post lots of short snippets and it was sort of cluttered. This is a nice upgrade with a simple and elegant look.
February 19th, 2009 at 2:44 pm
Great theme! Nice features!
I will certainly try it.
; )
February 19th, 2009 at 2:52 pm
It’s very cool
February 19th, 2009 at 3:16 pm
Not bad, but a little too plain for my taste.
February 19th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
I have checked this theme out. Resisted to activate as I am hanging on to dedicate the switch over to my sister whose birthday is later this month. Well done guys
February 19th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
how do use costom colors? Its only letters?
February 19th, 2009 at 6:06 pm
Use hex color values to update the colors.
February 19th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
really nice
February 19th, 2009 at 4:08 pm
nice! but nowhere to click on to turn the pages. and no time showing for the comments.
February 19th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Nice Theme.
February 19th, 2009 at 4:13 pm
Very nice theme, perfect work. Another one that wish “flexible width”, tough!
February 19th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
the super-special set of features + customizable image header = best theme yet! thanks !!!!
February 19th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
This is great! I made the switch late last night. It was a little buggy then, but all seems resolved this morning. I love the color options, custom header, alert box, and the sidebar. The only thing I’d love is if we could change the text color too. I prefer the links & text to be the same color except when someone hovers. Otherwise, this one is fantastic!
February 19th, 2009 at 4:51 pm
Good features. It’s made me have a headache about which theme I will use between Grid Focus and Vigilance.
February 19th, 2009 at 4:53 pm
Hehehehe mau segera coba nih. Terima kasih…thanks…
February 19th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
You changed the way comment count is displayed on the main page and the header… could we have that back please, it was much nicer?
Also the sidebars font is really buggy…
Other than that, it has the potential to become the best theme on wordpress.com.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:08 pm
Comment counts will be changing to work with comment threading.
February 19th, 2009 at 5:18 pm
I’m glad this had a custom header image option… more themes should have that otherwise alot of the blogs out there would be very bland.
February 19th, 2009 at 5:29 pm
Customizable colors! How sweet! I’ll be sure to check it out in the very near future. Thank you for adding this!
February 19th, 2009 at 5:35 pm
thank u for finally adding another Theme!!
keep ‘em coming pls…it’s boring otherwise…
February 19th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Hi Heather, its great theme! I try to used it and look so nice…Thanks a lot…
February 19th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
I really like this theme especially when I saw it had a custom image header. Having a wide sidebar and two smaller sidebars is a really, really good idea – I’m able to use the wider poll designs and still have room for two columns.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:36 pm
Thank you WordPress for another great theme.
February 19th, 2009 at 6:43 pm
I didn’t like it.
You should avaliable putting a img logo there.
February 19th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
This by far is the most superior theme on WordPress.com.
February 19th, 2009 at 7:11 pm
I love the vigilance theme with my blog. It’s crisp, clean, and easy to read. And I love all the customized options it has.
February 19th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
I like this, but why won’t it let me hide the text in my header? When I go the custom header and click hide text, then save, it always puts the text back. It starting to get annoying since this is, like, the fourth of fifth time I’ve tried it today.
February 21st, 2009 at 9:16 pm
This problem is now fixed. Please clear your cache and cookies and contact Support if it isn’t working for you still.
February 19th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
Can ppl with free wordpress get this theme and the last you did release?
February 20th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
Yes, you should be able to find them either in the WordPress.org Theme Directory or by searching for the them in Google.
February 19th, 2009 at 7:28 pm
Great theme. I’ll choice that. Thank you.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Love it! Especially the serif font, the customizable header, the wider area for text, and the opportunity for custom color choices. Thank you so much for making this available.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:13 pm
I’m back to Albeo… i tried it, but it din’t impress me as the hype…
February 19th, 2009 at 8:16 pm
awesome… will surely try this one out real soon……..
February 19th, 2009 at 8:24 pm
.. not bad ..
February 19th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
This theme is almost perfect!! The only thing I hate about every wordpress theme, is, why is my screen ten times bigger than the layout?? I’d like a layout that utilizes more of the space for the posts so I can post good size photos and stuff without them being cut off
But these features definitely make me love it more
February 19th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
p.s. the exclude pages from navigation is the best!
February 19th, 2009 at 8:35 pm
these features like custom color and patterns for background etc. is needed for all themes. So good! ahh!
February 19th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
I’m a little new to blogging, so I would appreciate it if someone could answer my question. Why would I want to have hidden pages? Don’t you want viewers to be able to see the pages you are creating? I would appreciate if someone can fill me in on the use of hidden pages. Thanks.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
Some people have created many pages that take up lots of room underneath their blog’s header as links. Vigilance options allow you to make links to these pages hidden from the header, not from the blog and its readers entirely.
February 19th, 2009 at 8:40 pm
I really like this theme thank you!!!
February 19th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Reminds me of the NY times : )
February 19th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
A clean new theme that lets me keep my custom header, perfect! Just what I’ve been waiting for – I love it! Thank you! (I’m tempted to start with CSS now, too!)
February 19th, 2009 at 9:02 pm
that’s very good, simply great!!!!!
February 19th, 2009 at 9:16 pm
It looks not bad.
February 19th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Love it! Already using it!
February 19th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Thank you for the fresh new image.
February 19th, 2009 at 10:52 pm
I like the history of lorem ipsum in the preview image.
February 19th, 2009 at 11:36 pm
Awesome!
February 19th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
Tried it, love it, will keep it! Thanks.
February 20th, 2009 at 12:25 am
Looks really good! Hmm, maybe it’s time for a theme change.
February 20th, 2009 at 12:45 am
using this thread to say it again: wordpress, you do rule!
February 20th, 2009 at 12:47 am
thats cool i will have to try it some time
February 20th, 2009 at 1:19 am
Interesting revenue model Jestro have got going there. Will wordpress.com users be expected to pay for support in the same way as wordpress.org users?
February 21st, 2009 at 9:22 pm
I’m not sure I understand the question but, no, users will never have to pay for support from WordPress.com staff.
February 20th, 2009 at 1:45 am
Love it. TY!
February 20th, 2009 at 2:38 am
Beautifully done. Works really well with image-heavy blogs.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:57 am
it’s nice…. =)
February 20th, 2009 at 3:10 am
i’ll try it,, so nice
February 20th, 2009 at 4:57 am
Thats cool…..Gr8 2 Cccccccc………….hmmm.!
February 20th, 2009 at 5:59 am
I like this theme and its feature of customizable colour. Yet it does not support all features of WordPress. Actullay Jornalist 1.9 is the only theme I can find which supports all features. If there are any others, please let me know. By the ways, can we have all these new features of Vigilance in all other themes, or at least i Jornalist 1.9?
February 20th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
Not every theme will get all of the same features, but we will certainly continue to add new features where we can and new themes too.
February 20th, 2009 at 6:56 am
I tried it and I can say it’s very interesting. Especially the customizable colours.
A detail I would like: could you add also the exact time when the comments are made?
Thank you and nice work!
February 20th, 2009 at 8:18 am
I’ll try this one and see how it works. Keep adding more themes
February 20th, 2009 at 8:36 am
Ah, for the articles also.
February 20th, 2009 at 9:25 am
Good, but Journalist is better
February 20th, 2009 at 9:42 am
The Journalist Theme was good but this is better. Slick. Good work!
February 20th, 2009 at 11:22 am
nice one, keep it rollin guyz!
February 20th, 2009 at 11:39 am
Great!.
I will change my wordpress blog theme.
February 20th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
Ahhh, love it, but the left/right sidebars aren’t working for me..just appearing as one long skinny sidebar!!!!I want to long skinny sidebars! Don’t worry, I’ll cc this to support
February 20th, 2009 at 10:17 pm
If you have any widgets added to the “Wide Sidebar,” then those will appear above the left and right sidebars.
February 20th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
I love the simple , classy feel to it .I’ll try it tonight. Great job to the designer
February 20th, 2009 at 12:25 pm
I really like this theme. Thanks WP.
February 20th, 2009 at 12:36 pm
is very percfeck
February 20th, 2009 at 2:29 pm
I like that this is fairly customizable (is that a word?) and that it seems to work with a lot of different kinds of posts. My blog is pretty random so something that is simple and not too busy will always be a winner with me. Good work, chaps.
February 20th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
It’s great, success for you
February 20th, 2009 at 3:02 pm
really nice theme. i will use in my next blog. thanks a lot
February 20th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
I think I’m going to change themes today!
Haha! I’ve been using The Journalist for the longest time. This one can definitely accommodate my long blog title. Sweet!
February 20th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
Nice blockquote box, but I prefer styles like Contempt that clearly delimit each post.
February 20th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
this looks great, but i do yearn for something with the same (or more features) as vigilance, but with the DePo presentation. it does look more classy that way.
February 20th, 2009 at 4:02 pm
Thanks WordPress….
February 20th, 2009 at 4:16 pm
Changed to this theme and I like it better than even Cutline. Added a custom header and leaving the sidebar as it is. My last theme I had a right and left sidebar but I like the wide sidebar setup.
February 20th, 2009 at 4:22 pm
Damn, another plain white theme.
February 20th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
It’s only plain white before you add custom colors!
February 20th, 2009 at 4:29 pm
Oh Happy Day!! Finally something I can use and play around with!! Love it!!
February 20th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
I’m using it! Thank you very much!
February 20th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
Looks to be just what I’ve been waiting for – excellent.
February 20th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
I’ll be using it for a while. My only complaint (which is too strong a word) is that you can’t change the color of the page itself. Just the border and the links. Otherwise, it seems to have the functions I was looking for.
February 20th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
Its perfect!!!
February 20th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
This is great, need to try it out
February 20th, 2009 at 7:15 pm
it’s cool, thanks.
February 20th, 2009 at 7:42 pm
Thanks! but idon’t find it for put in my blog
February 20th, 2009 at 7:45 pm
Ah sorry I found it!
for thoes who don’t find it like me is in the last page ! lol
February 20th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
Looks awesome, I may just change again! Thanks!
February 20th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
Orribile!
February 20th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
Just made the switch. Great theme.
February 20th, 2009 at 10:08 pm
So how about those special features be applied to, um, every theme?
Capitalism is dead, so we don’t have to do that competition thing anymore. Read the papers, dude.
February 27th, 2009 at 10:13 pm
It’s not about competition so much as giving each theme its own special appeal. We’ll consider using some of these features in other themes. Thanks for your feedback.
February 20th, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Thanks WordPress for reading my blog. Just last week, I was complaining about how I wish the Vigilance Theme was available, and now I’m using it! You made my day.
February 20th, 2009 at 10:55 pm
i was so excited with the new flexibility this theme offers but unfortunately, I always have many tags and they look ridiculous at the beginning of posts with this theme. =(
Any chance you guys might add a customizable header to The Journalist v. 1.3? I would be so grateful! =D
February 20th, 2009 at 11:04 pm
I like the alert box. I’m going to check it out.
