Bring Twitter to Your Blog
Have you become addicted to telling the world what you’re up to in 140 characters or less? If so, we’ve launched a feature that you’ll love: a Twitter widget for your sidebar.
Now you can quickly and easily keep your readers connected to your updates on Twitter, and make your blog the home of even more of your content. We use it on the WordPress news blog to let you know what’s going on with our @wordpressdotcom account.

All the links that you post to Twitter remain clickable in the widget, and your @ replies link to user profiles, like when you say, “Hey @photomatt!”. Hashtags link to Twitter Search for that term, like #wordpress. Timestamps link to the individual update, and the heading of the widget links back to your profile.
To add the Twitter widget to your WordPress.com blog, just head to Appearance > Widgets in your dashboard. The brand new Twitter widget option is there waiting patiently for you.
Click “Add” to add it to your sidebar, and then click “Edit” to set your Twitter username and choose how many updates you’d like to display. No passwords needed.
Have more than one account on Twitter? No problem. You can add as many as you like! Just add another widget as you did before.
Update: We’ve released the Wickett Twitter Widget plugin for WordPress.org users.

March 27th, 2009 at 3:38 am
good!
March 27th, 2009 at 4:05 am
Thanxs, but it’ll be good if you add a “t” icon (the t in the twitter icon) before the title of the widget – so people can easily recognize that’s a twitter space.
March 27th, 2009 at 4:08 am
excellent. love wordpress always … thanks
March 27th, 2009 at 4:17 am
love it
March 27th, 2009 at 4:23 am
I’m so excited that you’ve finally added this functionality to WordPress. I think it adds an element to my blog (and others out there) that will really add value to both the Twitter and Blog Community. THANK YOU!
March 27th, 2009 at 4:25 am
I will as soon as I can figure out what the point of Twitter is. Thanks though.
March 27th, 2009 at 4:42 am
Awesome addition. Keep up the good work!

March 27th, 2009 at 5:25 am
Could be EVEN BETTER to have the interactive flash twitter badge as a whole separate page or a way to add it to the ABOUT section.
March 27th, 2009 at 5:31 am
Interesting…
March 27th, 2009 at 5:31 am

*stands up and applauds loudly* Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. Now I won’t have to complain anymore over on the forums about the lack of a WordPress Twitter widget.
March 27th, 2009 at 6:09 am
You have just made me a very happy man: thank you. Farewell to that RSS twitter feed: bring on the widget!
March 27th, 2009 at 6:10 am

March 27th, 2009 at 1:02 pm
Yes, your Twitter account needs to be public. Only your approved Twitter followers can access a private account’s updates.
March 27th, 2009 at 6:38 am
awesome! no more fiddling with html

March 27th, 2009 at 7:30 am

March 27th, 2009 at 8:44 am
Not under “Ambiru” it’s not. No sidebars are allowed. Any help?
March 27th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Ambiru is a single column theme that is not setup to use widgets. Not all themes have the option to add widgets.
March 27th, 2009 at 8:44 am
I love the idea, but it doesn’t get refreshed! Mine are stuck, one at 18 hours ago and another at 12hours ago…
March 27th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
I see an update from 48 minutes ago on your blog. Cleared the cache on the blog as well. Should take care of it.
March 27th, 2009 at 8:51 am
My twitter tweets are not updating every 15 mins the
widget is still displying tweets from 10hrs ago.
the only way i can get the twitter widget to update is when
go to the widget page and click save.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:09 pm
Cleared your cache as well.
March 27th, 2009 at 8:53 am
Finally!!! Was making do with an RSS feed!Love u guys!
March 27th, 2009 at 9:12 am
Keren banget, terimakasih atas kerja keras kalian.
Semangat…!!!
March 27th, 2009 at 9:25 am
Now this was a really well-timed release – just when I was getting frustrated that I’d have to use the RSS feed route. Well done guys! One little suggestion: could you consider extending the widget with an option to display the Twitter account’s picture besides each tweet?
Glad to see that you’ve cleared up the caching bug quickly too.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:30 am
Finally!
March 27th, 2009 at 9:32 am
This is exactly what I’ve ben looking for
March 27th, 2009 at 9:35 am
good
but how to put this or other widget like delicious to sticky post???
thanks
March 27th, 2009 at 11:57 am
Go to the WordPress.com widgets help page to learn how to add other widgets.
March 27th, 2009 at 10:01 am
sweet:):):):) xD
March 27th, 2009 at 10:09 am
This is great and I have implemented it in to my right hand toolbar, however when I did my links dissapeared and I can’t seem to get the back on the blog?
Help!!! Please!
March 27th, 2009 at 1:05 pm
If you hadn’t customized widgets yet, you just need to add the Links widget or any other that you want to display. When you haven’t added any widgets, the theme displays a default set of widgets.
March 27th, 2009 at 10:11 am
Oh wow, thanks so much! I was hoping that one day we will get this. I can still enjoy a while b4 I can migrate to wordpress.org. Salut to wordpress : ) !!!!
March 27th, 2009 at 10:16 am
thank you so0 much… I’ll use that for sure… you guys are the best… grear work =)
March 27th, 2009 at 10:35 am
YAY. Like about time.
March 27th, 2009 at 10:38 am
Very timely..figured you couldn’t hold out much longer without this, though the RSS widget was a functional workaround.
March 27th, 2009 at 11:16 am
awesome! thx!
March 27th, 2009 at 11:24 am
Oh, that’s cool, but… Some blogger (as me) want a Plurk widget too.
March 27th, 2009 at 11:28 am
very very cool
March 27th, 2009 at 11:28 am
doing
March 27th, 2009 at 12:04 pm
Thank you! Love this feature!
March 27th, 2009 at 12:34 pm
Nice. Is is possible to update the interface so there is some space between the twitter updates displayed? Everything is scrunched together, making it a bit messy.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:19 pm
I’ve added a little extra space for tweets in the Rounded theme.
March 27th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
What a shame it looks rubbish compared to twitters own widget.
March 27th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
THANK YOU! Timely, appreciated.
March 27th, 2009 at 12:50 pm
Any chance of being able to publish only your own tweets and not your @replies?
March 27th, 2009 at 1:12 pm
Not currently.
March 27th, 2009 at 12:53 pm
Nice, Thanks.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:37 pm
It seems it’s updating on http://blogginginparis.com, but not at my other blog http://vieuxcestmieux.com
But thanks for clearing the cache, Nick
March 27th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
Cleared that one for you as well.
March 27th, 2009 at 1:45 pm
Nick, you rock!
March 27th, 2009 at 1:50 pm
Thanks!
March 27th, 2009 at 2:15 pm
Great! Is there a way to get it to update a bit faster, though? At the moment it’s thirteen hours behind my latest post.
March 27th, 2009 at 2:26 pm
I see an update showing up from 17 minutes ago on your blog.
March 27th, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Thank you! will definitely try it out
March 27th, 2009 at 2:47 pm
Mine looks sloppy – is it because of the theme I use?
March 27th, 2009 at 3:04 pm
I’ve added some spacing between tweets for Adreas09 so that it looks better.
March 27th, 2009 at 3:34 pm
10x! I love you.
March 27th, 2009 at 3:50 pm
Sweet. much better than using html code in the text widget!
March 27th, 2009 at 4:20 pm
How about one for Facebook?
March 27th, 2009 at 4:33 pm
No Facebook widget at this point.
March 27th, 2009 at 4:28 pm
I re-saved after the supposed bug fix over an hour ago and tweets are still not showing up…I have tweeted several times since both the initial widget addition and the update.
March 27th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
You had put @ in front of your username in the widget settings. I fixed it for you and updates are showing up.
March 27th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Nevermind on my last comment. I uninstalled and reinstalled the widget and it seems to be working now.
March 27th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been waiting for this! I’m almost up to 1,000 tweeters as friends. whoohoo!
March 27th, 2009 at 4:55 pm
I see the widget but it’s not appearing on my page? How do you connect it to your user name on twitter?
March 27th, 2009 at 5:05 pm
I looked at your blog, and I can see the Twitter widget at the bottom of the right sidebar. Try refreshing the page and check again.
March 27th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
great
March 27th, 2009 at 5:42 pm
It doesn’t seem to be working for me. I added the widget yesterday and it didn’t show any of my updates. So I waited, came back today, removed the widget and added it back, saved it, and it still isn’t showing anything.
What can I do?
March 27th, 2009 at 9:11 pm
Updates are showing now on your blog.
March 27th, 2009 at 5:44 pm
Fantastic, simply awsome.
Great advice Sheri, that is exactly where it is.
Erik, I hope you see it?
March 27th, 2009 at 6:20 pm
Yay! I’ve changed from an RSS feed to this one. Thank you!
March 27th, 2009 at 6:38 pm
See this is my problem: I’m not a huge fan of Twitter. Call me old-fashioned; I’m just not a huge fan of a social network like Twitter. However, I do want more traffic. Maybe I could find some kind of alternative? Or could somebody please convince me that I could be responsible with a Twitter account?
I love WordPress and its creative creators. Keep it up!

March 27th, 2009 at 6:44 pm
NIce one… THNx a ton…
But i’m still waiting for the facility for adding ads in our blog…
When will this facility be available??????
March 27th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
Proof of how technology persuades people: I just created a Twitter account. Thank you WordPress.
And that took all of… two minutes?
March 27th, 2009 at 7:26 pm
I put this on my blog this morning, and now it won’t show the items! Is the system crashing since it’s so popular? my blog is cmclref.wordpress.com. I see the headline, but no items (it looked fine at 8:45 am PDT).
March 27th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Able to see updates listed. Please contact support if you are still having problems.
March 27th, 2009 at 7:44 pm
That is so cool to Have now. I am so happy to Have twitter on my blog
March 27th, 2009 at 7:59 pm
Hmm. Mine doesn’t want to show any actual tweets. It’s set up properly, but just links to my twitter page.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:15 pm
I’m able to see tweets listed on the sidebar of your blog from the widget.
March 27th, 2009 at 8:03 pm
cool!
but i wish if you add a shoutbox widget in the future
thanks
March 27th, 2009 at 8:08 pm
My tweets seem to show up fine but each line is prefaced by a “o” (a lower-case o). I’m not sure what that’s all about. It almost looks like a fat bullet point.
Thanks for the widget, though.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
That’s the bullet style for the theme you are using.
March 27th, 2009 at 8:10 pm
Oooh, nice widget addition.
March 27th, 2009 at 8:19 pm
That’s great! Thank you!
March 27th, 2009 at 8:25 pm
I don’t see the Twitter widget in my left column either. I’m using Thesis theme. Any thoughts?
March 27th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
I don’t see a blog associated with your email address. Please contact support.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:03 pm
Thanks a lot guys!
March 27th, 2009 at 9:14 pm
Wow. You guys are planning great features due to WordPress.
March 27th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Wierd. The tweets appeared, but now they disappeared again. If you look at http://www.digdeeper.us, you will see what I mean. Does the widget not function if run through a different url?
March 27th, 2009 at 10:03 pm
I am able to see updates listed. Please contact support if you are still having problems.
