New stats charts
If you’ve looked at your WordPress.com blog stats today, you might have noticed the charts look a little different. We’ve replaced the old proprietary chart object with Open Flash Chart, an open source alternative. Charts now look like this:

(Though I can’t guarantee you’ll see numbers like that).
All the old charts are still available in more or less the same form. And we’re hoping to explore some of the new possibilities Open Flash Chart has to offer – so keep an eye on your stats. Like we had to ask.
And in case you missed it: yes, blog stats now work in your time zone.

And all this for free!
Cool – but as I am a real cynic, when will we have to start paying for upgrades?
May 15th, 2009 at 2:42 am
nice work guys
May 15th, 2009 at 3:50 am
I like that it works in our own timezones! My stat would change randomly at 5
May 15th, 2009 at 3:52 am
This one is
New Freshness
The old one was
Old Staleness
Seriously I love it!
May 15th, 2009 at 3:59 am
thanks so much…it’s look more better….GO WordPress…
May 15th, 2009 at 4:24 am
Alex, beautiful job. I really love the way you’re improving things around here.
May 15th, 2009 at 4:28 am
I must admit I wish my stats looked like that too. Though, I’d probably die of shock.
Lovin the time zone change also – I am easily confused, and it just makes more sense.
Thanks!
May 15th, 2009 at 4:46 am
nice job and thanks for the update
May 15th, 2009 at 6:18 am
another cool stuff
May 15th, 2009 at 7:33 am

Alex: Is there any plan to make Google Analytics an option (or to include similar functionality to WP’s native blog stats)? I had a Bloglines blog before this and, while I hated the platform, I loved being able to use Google Analytics – especially to see where my readers were coming from geographically (I live in Vietnam). I know I could move to WordPress.org, and I may do that at some point if I can get someone to help me configure it and move my WordPress.com blog over to it, but any chance we’ll have the Google Analytics stuff here at WP.com?
Thanks for continuing to improve an already awesome product!
Henry

At the moment, we don’t allow that code for security reasons. Thanks for the feedback!
May 15th, 2009 at 9:00 am
do not like the gradient background
May 15th, 2009 at 9:36 am
Where have my stats , gone they disappeared last night, I can only see the very bottom left of the chart.
Will they be back soon?
July 30th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
It sounds like you may need to clear your cache and cookies. Please contact Support if you’re still having issues after trying that out
May 15th, 2009 at 11:19 am
I like it.
thanks
May 15th, 2009 at 12:08 pm
tanx for the new stats chart
looks better than past
May 15th, 2009 at 1:08 pm
Wow, these stat graphs are a LOT faster now! It only takes seconds to load the graph for a particular page on my blog even though it goes back to August 2008 and has 1.4m pageviews to deal with. The old graph software used to take minutes, or even just time out before it graphed the data!
May 15th, 2009 at 1:14 pm
Oh goodie. New stat charts. I like them! Thank you!
May 15th, 2009 at 1:20 pm
I hate it. It’s so ‘flashy’ I can’t bear to look at my stats, and that’s hardly what you were wanting to do, is it? This is not one of these ‘I don’t like the style, but I’ll get used to it after a while’. It’s visually disturbing, like strobe lighting, which you get warned about before going places.
May 15th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
Nice! But what do I have to do to get stats like that???!!!! (I’d even kill to get stats 1/10th of those!)
May 15th, 2009 at 2:11 pm
I like it
May 15th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
new stats are aresome!
i like the mouseover pop up on each day.
and the day end timezone update rocks too.
May 15th, 2009 at 4:00 pm
nice chart, i love it. wordpress is the best.
May 15th, 2009 at 4:42 pm
yeaahh
May 15th, 2009 at 4:49 pm
Thands My Frends in info….
God Bless You
May 15th, 2009 at 5:06 pm
I like this new look. And as for the stats, now I would love to have stats like that!
May 15th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Cool, but would be great to see the peek numbers
July 30th, 2009 at 1:39 pm
You can see the highest number of pageviews you’ve received next to “Busiest Day” on your stats page.
May 15th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
it’s great…
May 15th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Nice, nice, nice!! Loving what I see so far!!
May 15th, 2009 at 9:24 pm
I like It. The new chart seems to be faster.
May 15th, 2009 at 10:24 pm
I really like this change. It’s so slight but it makes such a difference. Thank you to whoever was a part of making this happen.
May 15th, 2009 at 10:34 pm
The time zone thing is great relief to an age-old annoyance; but switching between day/week/month now causes a very long pause, whereas it used to be quite responsive.
July 30th, 2009 at 1:33 pm
If you haven’t already, I would suggest going Turbo to speed things up
May 16th, 2009 at 1:59 am
Thanks.
Great work.
Very nice
May 16th, 2009 at 2:18 am
I just like it, thank,s
May 16th, 2009 at 2:33 am
Looks nice and works well!
May 16th, 2009 at 3:10 am
Are there any plans to have the syndicated views included on the main stats page, rather than only the specific post stats? For that matter, can we find out how many people are subscribed, or even who or where they are?
July 30th, 2009 at 1:32 pm
We don’t currently offer stats on unique IPs or feeds. Thanks for the suggestion:)
May 16th, 2009 at 4:36 am
I love it! I love how fast it is, and I love how clearly it shows what is happening – in my time zone, too!
May 16th, 2009 at 6:28 am
i love it very much!!!!!
May 16th, 2009 at 9:13 am
Cool!
May 16th, 2009 at 12:43 pm
thanks wordpress i’m so happy choosing you for blogging
May 16th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
I noticed the new style and i think it is better, and ofcource it is not a closed app . I think there should also be a chart , like a bar graph, or a pie chart comparing the post hits, or the category hits. Like if there are 5 categories then the pie chard will display the % amount or the number of hits of those categories. Also a bar graph can be there to compare and show the article visit numbers.
May 16th, 2009 at 1:59 pm
I like the flash charts better.
May 16th, 2009 at 2:19 pm
yes they are nice, I have noticed a few days back,
wordpress is rocking day by day.
May 16th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
Nice work — they seem MUCH faster, and open source is always preferred.
May 16th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
Hey, my stat chart doesn’t look like the example above….for some reason mine only goes up to about 1000 on the vertical axis….can I have your one instead?
May 16th, 2009 at 6:57 pm
It’s so sleek. Great changes!
May 16th, 2009 at 7:18 pm
awesome
)
May 16th, 2009 at 7:19 pm
Thank you, great work >>> super
May 16th, 2009 at 8:38 pm
well i do hope that we all get numbers like these and even bigger
May 16th, 2009 at 10:23 pm
This is so hard to learn, it’s my first blog but the new chart is easy! Is there a WordPress blog book for dummies somewhere so I can learn the other stuff?
July 30th, 2009 at 11:54 am
Hi. Yes, in fact there is! However, I think you’ll find that for your needs on WordPress.com, our support pages will provide all the help you need!
May 17th, 2009 at 1:42 am
Very nice, thank you.
May 17th, 2009 at 3:01 am
i really appreciate the time zone change, being in Manila.
May 17th, 2009 at 4:57 am
Like it… good work.
May 17th, 2009 at 10:57 am
great work … the new stats is awesome… also the widgets have been given an excellent makeover
May 17th, 2009 at 11:21 am
the new stats chart is a fine surprize from you people. thank you very much.
they will be more?
May 17th, 2009 at 2:59 pm
I’m still very happy you even have those stat charts. They really encourage me to keep writing every time I see 10-20 people visiting my blog.
Thanks for that!
May 17th, 2009 at 5:34 pm
Great – but my view count flatlines at two per day from my mum and dad.
May 17th, 2009 at 8:09 pm
Thanks for the hard work. I’m afraid I like the old stats charts better. Particularly when looking at the graphs for individual posts, the new ones are quite hard to read if the numbers are bunched together, and the little popup when you roll over the points on a graph obscure the line of the graph itself. Is there a way to revert to the old charts? I’m just so set in my ways…
July 30th, 2009 at 11:53 am
Sorry, there isn’t a way to revert to old features. I think you’ll find you will like it as you use it more
May 17th, 2009 at 9:59 pm
thanks – it is really helpful.
May 17th, 2009 at 10:28 pm
Well done!
Keep on improving the stats (possibility to see day to day results since the first day, time spent on pages, location, and other Google Analytics-like features), for me it’s the weakest point WordPress has for the moment…
Thanks for this new step anyway!
May 17th, 2009 at 11:53 pm
keep up the good work. all the best!

May 18th, 2009 at 12:14 am
Thank you for the ease of thought !!

May 18th, 2009 at 9:41 am
I like this! Great work! Thanks and good luck for the future.
May 18th, 2009 at 10:53 am
I Like it
May 18th, 2009 at 1:42 pm
why dont you use a simple number on the left chart, like 10.000, 11.000, 12.000 etc..
just curious
anyway, it is nice.. very very nice stat chart
July 30th, 2009 at 12:28 pm
The numbers that display on the Y axis vary in proportion to how many views you have
May 18th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
Would love to have FeedStats back, it is a pity that WordPress has stopped supporting this important information
May 18th, 2009 at 2:00 pm
thank you
May 18th, 2009 at 3:10 pm
Thanks a lot. Stats are always very important!!!
May 18th, 2009 at 9:22 pm
I’m glad it now responds properly to time zones. Thanks!
May 19th, 2009 at 1:53 am

it’s great’s…
May 19th, 2009 at 9:13 am
Thank you!
May 19th, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Love it! The stats are very informative – and because I blog about cars, the stats make it easy to tell what people are interested in and what days bring in more viewers. Thanks for this!
I was wondering – is there a way to monitor unique views? … because if the same person keeps looking aty my blog, I cant tell!
July 30th, 2009 at 12:20 pm
Sorry, we don’t currently offer a feature that will allow you to see the IPs of all visitors.
May 19th, 2009 at 5:49 pm
You guys are truly amazing! I have really enjoyed getting to grips with the changes – I spend so much time doing this thing! Thank you. WordPress.com is my best friend!
May 19th, 2009 at 6:49 pm
I moved my blog from Blogspot to WordPress and couldn’t be happier. Love the features and the way my blog now looks. Keep up the great work!
May 19th, 2009 at 7:55 pm
Thanks you all…
May 19th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
Great stuff – the time zone mod is wonderful! Any opportunity for analytics like Google offers? I know it’s available to WordPress.org customers as a plug-in but how about more detail for WordPress.com folks? Cheers!
July 30th, 2009 at 11:48 am
At the moment, we don’t allow that code for security reasons. Thanks for the suggestion
May 19th, 2009 at 9:20 pm
I like it… Thanks!!!
May 19th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
Nice.

May 20th, 2009 at 1:49 am
Kool! I might be 10 years old but wow this is amazinggggg!
May 20th, 2009 at 5:27 am
huzzah to my time zone stats!
May 20th, 2009 at 5:36 am
Really cool stuff!!
May 20th, 2009 at 5:43 am
That’s awesome. I love the way the new stats look and the timezone fix is great too.
May 20th, 2009 at 5:49 am
Thanks. Stats most useful for understand the traffic patterns.
I’m beginning to see what impact a particular post has, and when to post during the week.
Also, recently the stats were increasingly provided in a form which was unreadable – perhaps because you were preparing for the switch to Open Source flash mode?
May 20th, 2009 at 6:19 am
Yay! now i know how many people visit my blog every day.. It’s so great! i dont need any other source to find the stat of my blog.. GOOD JOB!
May 20th, 2009 at 1:26 pm
nice… you guys are cool!
more accurate…
May 20th, 2009 at 3:24 pm
I like it now. I wonder, though, why our own hits do not count. We are the writers and main fans. Who cares if we get 10+ hits a day!!!
May 20th, 2009 at 4:15 pm
I love the timezone fix. Though I have to admit, before I knew that change had been made, by late afternoon just before my usual 5pm rollover, I thought my blog traffic had tanked! I figured it out, but I’m glad I found this post. Thanks for the change.
May 20th, 2009 at 6:51 pm
I like the changes as well.
May 20th, 2009 at 7:02 pm
Great changes. Thanks.
May 20th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
I like the look and feel of the stats time-series plot, but I have one suggestion. When you mouse-over the data points, you get a pop-up that tells the values for that date. Great, but it is positioned in a way that, at least on my chart, obscures a lot of the data line. Does it have to appear right next to the cursor? If it were in the corner or something, I would like it better. It’s very distracting.
May 20th, 2009 at 10:10 pm
the one thing I’d like, is for the stats to be extrapolated.. what I mean, is that if it’s only 4 days into a month, it’d be nice to not only have the information for the 4 days, but an extension of what the rest of the month would end up like based on the average of those 4 days.
because its’ hard to tell how well you’re doing in a certain month from a quick look, without working out how many days you’ve got left
May 21st, 2009 at 1:07 am
Thanks folks. All the latest changes are so cool.
May 21st, 2009 at 2:24 am
Much Improved!
Would it be possible to also upgrade the referrers? Right now there are too many ‘ghost’ referrals, or views that cannot be accounted for.
