New Theme: Fusion
I’m proud to introduce you to Fusion, our newest theme. The versatility of this theme makes it great for a variety of uses including technical blogs, long-form writing, posting code samples, and displaying large images. You can use Fusion just like any other WordPress.com theme or, if you prefer a wide layout, this theme is ready to accommodate.

Example of Fusion's out-of-the-box layout and design.
Fusion comes with a widget-ready footer, support for custom header image and custom menu, and options for you to customize the layout. Layout options in Appearance→Themes include fixed or flexible layout, choice of left, right, or two right sidebars, or a full-width main column with no sidebars. You can also choose to display full posts or excerpts only on archive pages.

It’s easy to personalize this theme by adding a custom header image and custom menu and using the various layout options to change the look. Here is an example of a wide design using the one-column, no sidebar layout option, flexible width main column, and custom header image.

Love the theme.. cheers
September 24th, 2010 at 2:37 am
Awesome theme right there
September 24th, 2010 at 2:58 am
Beautiful theme, but I wish there were more simple dark-background themes. They are better for your eyes when reading.
September 24th, 2010 at 6:30 am
Hi Raven—we have many simple and dark themes already. Check out Oulipo (dark color scheme), Vostok, Coraline (dark color scheme), Structure (dark color scheme), ChaoticSoul, and ChaosTheory. See more “dark” themes in your WordPress.com dashboard under Appearance → Themes and click Feature Filters at the far right near the search field. Click one or more filters, then click Apply Filters to see themes that match.

Wow! I am tempted!
September 24th, 2010 at 6:28 am
Absolutely wonderful! Love it.
September 24th, 2010 at 5:30 pm
Yay! Finally a new theme, with customizable sidebars(I can’t remember if I asked for a customizable sidebar or not
)! You rock, WordPress
September 24th, 2010 at 6:15 pm
Nice layout — tempted, BUT, I wish it had three columns
Still, great job! Keep them coming!
September 24th, 2010 at 6:58 pm
Am I the only other person who agrees with Lee (September 21st, 2010 at 8:00 pm ) here? Yes, the latest themes coming out really DO start to look like copies of each other and that’s kind of depressing. Themes are not only sidebars and widgets and readability, if that was the purpose we wouldn’t need more than four or five of them, to cater for different number of columns and stuff like that. Themes are also about the art that goes behind them, the background and foreground graphics, the drawings that can be used as widget seperators or post seperators, stuff like that.
And to be perfectly frank, much as it hurts me after being on WordPress for close to four years now is that the latest themes are just bland, there is no other nice way to put it. I don’t know if this is done consciously so as to force us to pay for the custom CSS upgrade or whether the criteria for picking up new themes don’t have the art as a top priority but it is beginning to become tiresome, waiting for ages for a new theme only to find that it looks like a different version of the previous one.
September 24th, 2010 at 7:59 pm
Wow at last! I must try this one out!
September 25th, 2010 at 3:14 am
Awesome theme. I’ll try it soon….
September 25th, 2010 at 6:08 am
This might be what I’ve been looking for!
September 25th, 2010 at 8:01 am

September 25th, 2010 at 10:02 am

This theme looks great!
September 25th, 2010 at 4:25 pm
Very nice template!
September 25th, 2010 at 6:58 pm
This theme should make my 30 dates in 3 months much easier to keep track of
September 26th, 2010 at 12:05 am
My new Theme!
September 26th, 2010 at 6:47 am
Wow… it’s nice and handy.
September 26th, 2010 at 11:44 am
I have now got it up and running. I like the upward tabs. I wish the header area could be changed (without CSS) to something other than that gradient black. I think the sidebar is too BIG and overpowering. I am not keen on the pale plum color for the tag surrounds. My opinion of it overall is that it is very good and professional-looking.
September 26th, 2010 at 1:01 pm
First things first… I have to say thanks to WordPress for giving us this great way to express ourselves. Now, I must say there are a lot of themes I’ll never use because I’m unable to choose the typography, like this one, a very nice and useful theme otherwise. The font size and family seems to me a very important thing for giving the readers a better reading experience to. Anyway, really good theme, congrats.
September 26th, 2010 at 2:57 pm
Love it. Have changed my site over to Fusion and couldn’t be happier.
September 26th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Finally, I can change from Monochrome. A fantastic theme. Keep them coming.
September 26th, 2010 at 3:07 pm
Umm… I like it! Excellent features with elegant simplicity.
September 26th, 2010 at 9:25 pm
We have one good theme, but there are still 99 that need improving.
September 27th, 2010 at 1:19 am
Good Theme… Very suave and simple.
September 27th, 2010 at 1:41 am
See, this is why I love WordPress and didn’t leave. You always come up with awesome stuff!
September 27th, 2010 at 1:47 am
This should come with color options.
September 27th, 2010 at 3:04 am
I like the themes. I will try them on my new blog.
September 27th, 2010 at 3:44 am
Cool—finally a new theme. Next, do one about texting.
September 27th, 2010 at 6:28 am
Looks squeaky clean, I like it.
September 27th, 2010 at 7:20 am
NICE! I’m going to change to it tonight! =)
September 27th, 2010 at 10:14 am

A really good flexible theme, will give this one a go.
September 27th, 2010 at 8:33 pm
Hi guys, this theme is cool, but i want to use the Mystique theme.
September 27th, 2010 at 8:57 pm
Thanks for the theme suggestion.
September 27th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
This new theme ain’t that new—at least a year old—old wine on old bottle. Fusion was initially released 22-dec-2008—almost 2 years ago—and is now “NEWS” in this newsletter. Please dont SPAM us with old news.
September 28th, 2010 at 4:26 am
It’s brand new to WordPress.com. We just released it for your use last week.
September 28th, 2010 at 12:56 am
Nice theme!
I’d like to suggest that the fonts be named, in descriptions of new themes. Or at least specify in the Themes page brief descriptions, whether the body text font is serif or sans.
Thanks!
September 28th, 2010 at 2:38 am
I decided to try it – I do like it. For now…
September 28th, 2010 at 3:45 am
I want to try it, I like it!
September 28th, 2010 at 4:12 am
Very good this theme. But you might as well have put the “quote” in the comments!
September 28th, 2010 at 2:10 pm
It’s cool and nice. Good job.
September 28th, 2010 at 2:19 pm
I would also like to see this with color options. Need it in black.
September 28th, 2010 at 4:58 pm
Cool, but not the best.
September 29th, 2010 at 1:45 am
I like this one and will try it out, but I can’t seem to beat Twenty Ten!
September 29th, 2010 at 2:43 am
I like it. But it’s missing two important things (in my opinion).
There are a lot of readers that aren’t comfortable with that font size.
1. A more readable font *without* paying for Typekit. (FYI Typekit prices are steep IMO.) I wish the Fusion theme had a font more like 2010. Especially given the one column option that is so nice for writing and reading.
2. It’s GREAT that it has sidebar options. But no option to put a sidebar on each side.
Also … it would be nice if it had color/background options. I love that it has custom header image. I love that it has an option to show header text or not.
But number 1 is the biggy. It looks like an absolutely *wonderful* theme for uncluttered writing. It just needs a more readable font!
September 30th, 2010 at 6:13 am
@Debbie Sorry this theme didn’t make the cut for you but we’re continuing to launch more and more themes, so we hope you’ll find one that’s a perfect fit.
September 29th, 2010 at 2:50 am
Great theme! I’m going to check it out!
September 29th, 2010 at 5:27 am
I like it. I want to try it.
September 29th, 2010 at 12:51 pm
Oooo nice. I really like the font too. I seem to spend more time changing my blog around than actually writing it!
September 29th, 2010 at 4:37 pm
Beautiful theme. Just wish there was a color palette option.
September 30th, 2010 at 7:19 am
Wow, goodie. Nice colors, broad layout. I might be changing my current theme sooner than I thought.
September 30th, 2010 at 2:47 pm
Oooh, it looks unique. Added to my list of possible-new-theme which gets longer, hehe.
September 30th, 2010 at 4:37 pm
Seems simple and elegant… cool.
September 30th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
How about some bright, fun, cheery themes? So many of the themes are dull and boring. So is Fusion.
September 30th, 2010 at 7:08 pm
Hi Carol—Fusion is just one of over a hundred themes on WordPress.com! We already have loads of fun, cheery themes for you to use. For example, check out Koi, Albeo, Flower Power, Sweet Blossoms, Fresh Bananas, Fauna, Rounded, and Spring Loaded.
And if you see a WordPress theme out there that you think would work perfectly for you, let us know in our themes forum and we’ll consider adding it to our growing collection of themes.
September 30th, 2010 at 6:45 pm
Yeah. Love it!
October 1st, 2010 at 3:56 am
Finally, one can enjoy a side-bar and a main column with a width > 500!!!
October 1st, 2010 at 9:07 am
Nice theme, I like it.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:37 am
Thanks guys (and girls if they were involved as well). Being a migrant from Windows Live, I was looking for a theme when I landed here. This theme has suited my tastes.
(I think). The layout with the widgets on the right side suites my tastes in layout as well. Thanks again, Craig
I particularly like the uncluttered, big reading/writing area. The black header caused some “creative” Paint.Net work with a couple of images, but the effect looks OK
October 1st, 2010 at 4:55 pm
Welcome Craig! Thanks for your feedback.
October 1st, 2010 at 12:26 pm
Wow, that will look really cool. Nice theme.
October 1st, 2010 at 2:20 pm

October 2nd, 2010 at 5:21 am
Currently using Inuit Types, but Fusion looks like a nice addition to the wonderfully expanding WP themes.
October 2nd, 2010 at 11:45 pm
One look at Fusion and I immediately replaced my old theme with it. Brilliant work.
October 3rd, 2010 at 12:03 am
I like the layout options.
October 3rd, 2010 at 3:15 am
Thanks for adding this awesome theme.
October 3rd, 2010 at 6:27 am
Nice! I just might use that eventually–when I get tired of whichever one I’m using right now (I don’t remember what it’s called, that’s a little sad…) well whatever. Point is, this looks like a cool theme!
October 3rd, 2010 at 11:58 am
It’s sweet to have layout choices.

October 3rd, 2010 at 9:49 pm
Nothing really new
October 4th, 2010 at 12:26 am
Wow, I will like to see more.
October 5th, 2010 at 9:13 am
A very nice theme with a lot of options. I’m still new to WordPress and it will take some time to get used to it. Thanks anyway.
October 5th, 2010 at 11:56 am
You have given me a chance to come near it. Thank you very much.
