Introducing FoodPress
“Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.”
Those wise words are from celebrity chef Julia Child, who was never shy about following her passions in life.
Child was passionate about many things, but especially food — and she shares that in common with WordPress.com bloggers, who publish thousands of mouth-watering recipes and food stories every day.
For that reason, we couldn’t resist building a special new site dedicated to showing off the amazing breadth of food-related posts on WordPress.com. Today we’re thrilled to announce FoodPress, the go-to destination for the hottest dishes from WordPress.com bloggers. To help us run the site, we’ve partnered with publishing company Federated Media. Each day, FoodPress features snippets of posts, which is designed to get new people to discover and then click through to a blog.
How to Get Featured?
If you’re wondering how posts are selected for the site, it’s easy: They’re all hand-picked by FoodPress editor Jane Maynard. She finds most of the posts by scouring food-related tag pages like food, recipes, baking, cocktails, and more — so if you’re a food blogger, be sure to use tags on your posts.
We hope you enjoy FoodPress as much as we do. But be forewarned: Viewing the site is known to cause hunger pangs!

November 1st, 2010 at 5:05 pm
Great stuff.
November 1st, 2010 at 5:07 pm
Those of us who are food-challenged love love LOVE this idea!
November 1st, 2010 at 5:12 pm
WOW! This was unexpected!
November 1st, 2010 at 5:14 pm
I am delighted to be a part of the team! Looking forward to making mouths water daily!

I’m totally with Joy on that one!
November 1st, 2010 at 5:15 pm
OMG OMG OMG! I LOVE food and now wordpress is going to feature them!?! My dream come true guys
November 1st, 2010 at 5:18 pm
Mmmmmmm makes me hungry. Look forward to reading. Good luck.
November 1st, 2010 at 5:23 pm
I’ll try to write a post about food this month
November 1st, 2010 at 5:23 pm
I don’t use tags. Will categories also be scanned?
November 1st, 2010 at 5:59 pm
Yes, categories will also be scanned, as per the Categories vs. Tags documentation.
November 1st, 2010 at 5:33 pm
This sounds delicious!
Well done!
November 1st, 2010 at 5:37 pm
Foodpress should add glutenfree to their “Featured Tags”. Perhaps also other allergies like lactose etc.
November 1st, 2010 at 6:00 pm
The featured tags will rotate as part of the FoodPress editorial process.
November 1st, 2010 at 5:38 pm
I love cooking! I’ve been cooking since I was a child. My favorite is deep italian dishes. Have any that is quick and simple?
November 1st, 2010 at 5:40 pm
What a great idea! With a name like Piglet you can imagine I love cooking. Look forward to finding other foodies!
November 1st, 2010 at 5:41 pm
There are a lot of foodies who blog on WordPress. I’m sure they will love this. Maybe my wife and I should put up some more recipes. WP just keeps getting better and better. Keep it up!
November 1st, 2010 at 5:43 pm
hmm…I’m hungry now:)
November 1st, 2010 at 5:46 pm
I smell (no pun intended) other vertical interest areas represented on WordPress.com eventually getting the same type of treatment as Food-related blogs. Say, tech-related or social media-related blogs (ahem… hint, hint) getting their own “xxxxxxxPress” treatment. At least I’m hoping!
That being said, FoodPress is a great design, and wonderful idea. Anything to showcase the blogs and content… Kudos.
November 1st, 2010 at 6:07 pm
You bet. If FoodPress goes well we’d love to do more of these.
November 1st, 2010 at 5:47 pm
Mmmm…. Great idea!
November 1st, 2010 at 5:48 pm
Of course I’ll write it. Especially my traditional country food
Thanks WordPress…
November 1st, 2010 at 5:57 pm
yum! yum! thanks for your serving!
November 1st, 2010 at 6:13 pm
Oh, I would probably pass out if my site was featured! But, it doesn’t hurt to dream, does it?

Sometimes I present reciepes in my blog, but it’s all in Norwegian. Anyway, Foodpress can be a great place to find inspiration.
November 1st, 2010 at 6:24 pm
FoodPress will indeed be limited to English content for now.
November 1st, 2010 at 6:21 pm
Very cool, love this idea!
November 1st, 2010 at 6:29 pm
Nice 8)
November 1st, 2010 at 6:29 pm
Love it!
Is it just me, but the blog displays completely different in Mozilla Firefox than in I.E.?
Good luck
November 1st, 2010 at 7:07 pm
We’ve noticed this too. Our crack team of souped-up (pun fully intended) designers is on it.
November 1st, 2010 at 6:31 pm
Hey guys,
Food press is a great idea! Why not have a similar concept with Creative Press? Basically, search engines are very poor in identifying creative stuff (automated search bots searching for keywords and title tags – not my idea of judging creativity!). That’s where WordPress has a great resource – its community of bloggers! Why not hand pick some of the most creative posts from around the WP community and introduce them in various categories?. BTW I appreciate that you got a ‘Vegetarian’ category in FP – I am a great proponent of Vegan food, and happy belated Vegan day for all of you!!

November 1st, 2010 at 6:33 pm
Great idea, would love my Yorkshire Dales Food Blog to be featured sometime…
November 1st, 2010 at 7:06 pm
Here are five ways to get featured on FoodPress.
November 1st, 2010 at 6:44 pm
I was wondering when WordPress would do something like this! Awesome!
November 1st, 2010 at 7:05 pm
May I suggest the option to add Icons for vegetarian/vegan meals? It would be nice to be able to see on the first gaze wether a recipe contains meat or other animal products, without having to check the list of contents or the tags of each post.
November 1st, 2010 at 8:28 pm
Sounds like a good idea, thanks for the suggestion. We’ll keep it in mind when improving upon FoodPress.
November 1st, 2010 at 7:06 pm
Love this idea! Thanks, WP!
November 1st, 2010 at 7:07 pm
This is just awesome! And the layout used is just so readable, and not to mention yummy!
I, together with other WP bloggers here, feel that this can be the start of something wonderful that could branch out to other cool stuff such at TechPress, etc. (as previously mentioned)… *dreaming of a collection of featured art, news, photos* … Mmmm!
November 1st, 2010 at 7:09 pm
I do food AND wine on my Wine Predator blog (and sometimes at Art Predator)–usually both in the same post! Will food press include beverages as well?
I’ve got a pan de muertos recipe up for today! And a great pumpkin soup with a wine review recently!
November 1st, 2010 at 8:32 pm
Yes, beverages (especially when combined with food-related content) might also make it in FoodPress. Impress us, be creative, we might surprise you.
November 1st, 2010 at 7:14 pm
Just appealng and fascinatingj–busy brain. God bless.
November 1st, 2010 at 7:14 pm
Great idea!
November 1st, 2010 at 7:16 pm
Great way to group the best of the best then highlight them in one location. Makes the whole user search and find experience much better. Kudos on a great idea.
November 1st, 2010 at 7:20 pm
Just waiting for some delicious yummy food from foodpress
November 1st, 2010 at 7:21 pm
Why do both the Foodpress links take me to Go Daddy? Do we still need to purchase the domain?
November 1st, 2010 at 7:58 pm
It’s a temporary caching issue and should go away when your ISP refreshes their DNS cache (sorry, we have no control over it).
November 1st, 2010 at 7:25 pm
That idea is awesomely tasty! Congratulation for this one.
So, what about a BR Press? Or EDM Press (Eletronic Dance Music)?
Cheers and keep up the cool work,
Gabriel Lucas

Are you interested in sketches/paintings of food too? My sketchgroup meets at restaurants and we draw/paint our food before we eat it. My blog has many such examples under the category Food Sketch.
Will WordPress being doing something similar for art in the future? Us WP artists would love it!
Thanks!
Jana
November 1st, 2010 at 8:25 pm
Sure thing Jana, our favorite food photos section is ideal for paintings too!

A great idea, and well-excecuted, to boot!
November 1st, 2010 at 11:28 pm
Quite interesting. Is there perhaps a way for WordPress bloggers working on novels, comics, and other writing to have something like this to feature new writers and showcase their work?
November 1st, 2010 at 11:29 pm
foodonfifth.com, Teresa Blackburn
Fabulous, great to hear about another great WordPress happening that we can participate in.
I have used WordPress for my food blog for some time now and love it ease of use and style. Congrats.
November 1st, 2010 at 11:41 pm
looks delicious
November 1st, 2010 at 11:57 pm
Cool
November 2nd, 2010 at 12:02 am
This is a great idea.
As it is backed by a publishing company, Federated Media, will selected food blogs be paid for their unique content? What are the copyright provisions, ie will those who wrote the blog own copyright? It’s great to be published, but generally writers get financial recompense and copyright.
Can you clarify this, it would be much appreciated.
November 2nd, 2010 at 1:17 pm
Hi Jan,
Not sure you quite understand how FoodPress works — have you checked out the site? Nothing is reprinted. It all goes straight to WordPress.com blogs.
November 2nd, 2010 at 12:05 am
Great Idea, how wonderful!
November 2nd, 2010 at 12:22 am
Excellent! I am excited to find other food bloggers and foodies on wordpress. Thank you.

November 2nd, 2010 at 2:28 am
Yeah, there were so many food blogs getting featured on Freshly Pressed that I think it’s inevitable to give them their own featured site.
November 2nd, 2010 at 4:30 pm
And you’ll still see great food posts on Freshly Pressed — that won’t change!
November 2nd, 2010 at 3:04 am
Ain’t this awesome?!

I live in the middle of no where in Tanzania as we speak and maybe what I miss the most is cooking good and tasty food and spices -this will be an ugly teaser! Love this site!!
November 2nd, 2010 at 6:55 am
What an excellent idea – though I am surprised that there’s not a full-text RSS feed (or, if there is one, I haven’t found it).
November 2nd, 2010 at 4:29 pm
There is a feed, but it’s not full text. See the “Subscribe” button near the top of FoodPress.
