Introducing FoodPress
“Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.”
Those wise words are from celebrity chef Julia Child, who was never shy about following her passions in life.
Child was passionate about many things, but especially food — and she shares that in common with WordPress.com bloggers, who publish thousands of mouth-watering recipes and food stories every day.
For that reason, we couldn’t resist building a special new site dedicated to showing off the amazing breadth of food-related posts on WordPress.com. Today we’re thrilled to announce FoodPress, the go-to destination for the hottest dishes from WordPress.com bloggers. To help us run the site, we’ve partnered with publishing company Federated Media. Each day, FoodPress features snippets of posts, which is designed to get new people to discover and then click through to a blog.
How to Get Featured?
If you’re wondering how posts are selected for the site, it’s easy: They’re all hand-picked by FoodPress editor Jane Maynard. She finds most of the posts by scouring food-related tag pages like food, recipes, baking, cocktails, and more — so if you’re a food blogger, be sure to use tags on your posts.
We hope you enjoy FoodPress as much as we do. But be forewarned: Viewing the site is known to cause hunger pangs!

I love this idea so much!
November 2nd, 2010 at 3:11 pm
I’m so happy for this. To be honest I had no idea who Julia Child was until I saw the film Julie & Julia and I was moved and inspired in many ways. Like Michael commented above it would be a nice idea to include restaurant blogs from all over the world. Wish to Foodpress the best.
November 2nd, 2010 at 3:14 pm
I don’t like to write about food. And I don’t particularly like to cook food. But I sure do enjoy reading about it and looking at pretty pictures of it!
November 2nd, 2010 at 3:15 pm
Great Idea! Food has been my passion for over forty years and to this day I’m still obsessed in the imagination at work with this medium.

Genius idea! So how will the author of the chosen food blog be notified that theirs will be the one featured? PS: The Modern Wife’s kitchen is always open
November 2nd, 2010 at 3:57 pm
Most of the content is hand-picked by our editor, Jane Maynard and she’ll email most of the featured bloggers as they are featured.
November 2nd, 2010 at 3:49 pm
Great idea!!
November 2nd, 2010 at 4:09 pm
Are you only featuring WordPress.com blogs, or also WordPress.org? My Camp Blogaway for Food & Recipe Bloggers is a WordPress.com site, but my Worth The Whisk is a .org. Thanks for this great opp.
November 2nd, 2010 at 4:26 pm
Only WordPress.com blogs for now.
November 2nd, 2010 at 4:51 pm
@ Netty Gritty How about photopress, artpress and music press?
I agree, and would like to add SoulPress
November 2nd, 2010 at 6:05 pm
Food bloggers for life!
November 2nd, 2010 at 6:23 pm
As a chef/restaurant owner, a food and travel writer, and a fellow wordpress blogger, I’m thrilled to see the addition of FoodPress. I currently have four blogs on wordpress, three of which are food related. I run the resturant with my husband and we do a big catering business as well. Tomorrow from 5am to 7am we’ll be serving up our popular Country Sausage Gravy and Biscuits at the CBS Morning Show live feed being shot here. Something’s always happening at The Deli Diva (name of the restaurant and myself…hubby is the Deli Dude, of course!)
Thanks for adding this blog for all of us foodies out here!
November 2nd, 2010 at 6:28 pm

November 2nd, 2010 at 9:57 pm

November 2nd, 2010 at 10:06 pm
This sounds amazing, figures crossed my blog will feature…
November 2nd, 2010 at 10:56 pm
Thanks for organizing all of the great food blogs here on wordpress for us! There are SO many food blogs out there – just a warning to those who are just getting into food blogging (reading OR doing)…. make sure to get off the computer and cook things (there have been many nights I have just drooled over things and never gotten off the couch to cook)!

November 3rd, 2010 at 6:30 am
i’m looking forward to it!
November 3rd, 2010 at 7:13 am
To be frank, I post my food related pictures in my facebook account. (Some people know me because of that. ha ha ha.) Maybe I should post in my wordpress blog also? hmm…
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:01 pm
We think you should indeed.
November 3rd, 2010 at 5:06 pm
Plus, if you post it to your WordPress.com blog, you can also instantly publish it to Facebook, twitter and more by using our publicize feature, so you’re not losing anything, only gaining.
November 3rd, 2010 at 7:14 am
I noticed that those posts in foodpress are in English, but my blog is in Bahasa Indonesia. Oh well …
November 3rd, 2010 at 7:49 am
Fantastic idee! but I don`t use tags either……
November 3rd, 2010 at 11:45 am
I love it!! So happy with my choice to use wordpress!! This is fab!
November 3rd, 2010 at 11:54 am
Awesome! So excited, thank you!
November 3rd, 2010 at 12:03 pm
It’s cool that you’re finding new ways to monetise content that don’t involve defacing our blogs with even more ads, but I remain slightly concerned that this continues the trend of marginalising blogs that aren’t easily pigeonholed into consumer-friendly categories. And non-English blogs, of course.
November 3rd, 2010 at 1:48 pm
Glad to hear you like the new approach! If all goes well, we hope to be able to expand this to more niche topics/blogs and non-English blogs, too, of course.
November 3rd, 2010 at 5:07 pm
Unfortunately I never made a post about food. Nevertheless this is a great breakthrough. Hopefully the future is not only just Foodpress
November 3rd, 2010 at 5:26 pm
I love this idea!
Very excited to see the greatness of what WordPress does for food!
November 3rd, 2010 at 5:27 pm
I like but… Everyone wants a site about its own passion… What about CyclePress, AstronomyPress, LovePress, KangarooPress and more.
November 3rd, 2010 at 5:56 pm
NOM NOM NOM! Can’t wait to see all of the great foods featured! I’m just now starting to really cook things (after 31 years of living, it has certainly taken me long enough) and I look forward to the blog!
November 3rd, 2010 at 7:57 pm
Amazing and Great idea. Thanks.
November 3rd, 2010 at 8:07 pm
Great idea! ;p
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:28 pm
This is brilliant news!!! Will it be unique recipes only or anything food related? My food focused blog paints with a very broad brush across any and everything that incorporates or encourages the consumption of food. Design, art, etc etc.
November 3rd, 2010 at 11:37 pm
Very cool idea. I’m excited to see what ends up being featured.

November 4th, 2010 at 9:59 pm
Excellent. Good job.
How about adding an allergy category for those who need to go gluten/wheat free and/or dairy free and/or egg free, and or nut free.
Speaking of nuts, I’m nuts about WordPress.
Thanks!
November 5th, 2010 at 12:12 am

November 10th, 2010 at 6:46 pm
Neat! Have been very caught up in NaNoWriMo for the past few days so I just caught wind of this, but it’s really exciting. Sounds like a great way to catch wind of other great food bloggers.
November 11th, 2010 at 9:25 am
It really is a very creative idea! I must read all of your other posts to get some more ideas
My blog is about permaculture gardening and my garden and writing about the adventures in it really is my passion. The only problem is that I write in Slovene (Slovenia is a small country between Italy in Austria in Europe). I know I would reach many more readers if I would write in English too. Is there already a solution in wordpress for bi-lingual bloggers?
Thank you for your support and keep up the good work!
November 11th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
My blog is partly inspired by the Julia Child movie.
