Challenge for 2011: Want to blog more often?
There is a saying among writers: to write more, write more. The hardest part of blogging isn’t the tools – it’s what goes on between your ears. Many people start blogs with excitement, but lose courage when facing the blank post page, or chicken out before hitting publish. Here at WordPress.com, we know. And we’re here to help.
Announcing DailyPost.WordPress.com
Starting today, you can go to dailypost.wordpress.com for inspiration, encouragement and advice about blogging. We’ll be posting every day so you can get regular boosts of motivation to blog more often.
The Post Every Day challenge
Daily habits are the best way to make change happen. If you can remember to do something every day, by the end of the year, you’ll have done that thing over 300 times! Simple and amazing.
As part of the DailyPost, we’re launching two campaigns:
- Post a Day 2011: Post something to your blog every single day through 2011
- Post a Week 2011: Post to your blog at least once a week through 2011
If you’re thinking big, sign up for PostADay. If you’re haven’t posted in ages, or have never posted at all, PostAWeek might be your speed. Still noble and bold, but perhaps more your style.
And of course, feel free to set your own goal – sign up as if you were doing PostAWeek, just so we can keep tabs on what you’re up to.
How to Join:
You can sign up any time – it’s okay if you are reading this on January 15th, or May 5th, or whenever. Join up – it will help you post more, which makes us happy.
Signing up is simple – do the following:
- Post on your blog, right now, that you’re participating
- (You can grab a sample post from dailypost.wordpress.com)
- Use the tag postaday2011 or postaweek2011 in your posts (tips on tagging here)
- Go to dailypost.wordpress.com
- Subscribe to dailypost.wordpress.com- you’ll get reminders and inspirations every day to help you bring your full potential to your WordPress blog!
If you need a new blog, go here first to get one fast.

I’m definitely intrigued by the idea of trying to post every day for a year. I actually tried it with Blog365 (which I believe died after year two, or possibly during). I ended up fizzling out some time in March, I think, but I may have to give PostADay a try just for the heck of it.
December 30th, 2010 at 10:55 pm
Interesting….. we’ll see!
December 30th, 2010 at 10:55 pm
interesting. i may have to go on this. possibly with a few tweaks of my own. cool fun. aloha and cool posting on in 2011.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:01 pm
Nothing wrong with more inspiration… Too awesome. I think its a huge challenge but I’m up to it!
December 30th, 2010 at 11:14 pm
Veeery interesting!!! But scary too
December 30th, 2010 at 11:20 pm
Great idea! A nudge from someone as a reminder would be awesome!
December 30th, 2010 at 11:20 pm
This is fantastic
December 30th, 2010 at 11:22 pm
I’m joining the PostAWeek Challenge, with a goal of posting at least twice a week consistently. I think that will be challenge enough for me!
December 30th, 2010 at 11:25 pm
I hope to have enough time to do this….
December 30th, 2010 at 11:40 pm
Interesting idea, signing up for the challenge will provide an impetus for us to write more.
December 30th, 2010 at 11:42 pm
I think I can manage to do this successfully since I use my blog to interact with my site members and keep them up to date on what is happening in the Traffic Exchange and pass on useful marketing tips and new tools or recommendations. You can find us by searching for Volcano Hits Traffic News.
Thanks and cool Challange, I accept and will do my best to post everyday in 2011

Depending what I feel like when I get home from work, I would love to post daily. I’m not called political mouth for nothing
December 30th, 2010 at 11:51 pm
A few weeks ago I decided I was going to try for something similar on my own … post at least five times a week. I’m so glad you are joining me!! (Oh, oops, I’m joining you!) Happy to have the added inspiration, too!
December 30th, 2010 at 11:54 pm
I think I’m gonna attempt it!
December 30th, 2010 at 11:59 pm
This is fabulous! I know I need to blog more often, but sometimes lack inspiration…until now!
Thank you for taking away the excuses.
December 31st, 2010 at 12:11 am
As a politics/technology/science diarist, I already post 7 times a day. Though that diminishes when all the relatives land here for the holidaze!

You guys are like these invisible ears or something. Or maybe mindreaders sometimes. This is the third time that I get a notification in my inbox on something that I have been wondering about only recently. Write often…yes, this is the advice I hear too. I struggle in this department a lot. I think WordPress comes up with some very inspiring features and ideas to keep everyone motivated. Now this idea to force ourselves to blog everyday or every week is brilliant. A push from somebody is always a nice thing. I don’t aim to be a writer but I do it just for the fun of it. Thank you for this idea! Now am I joining?? mmmmm…..here is where I chicken out to commit. Again, if I don’t try, I am never going to find out if I can or not.
December 31st, 2010 at 12:31 am
Do it. You know you want to. If you goal is to write more, and signing up means you post a few more times than you would have otherwise, its worth it.
December 31st, 2010 at 12:17 am
I’ll see which one I’ll attempt. Probably the once a week one.
December 31st, 2010 at 12:28 am
What about quality vs quantity? Methinks there will be a clear winner under this scheme.
December 31st, 2010 at 12:29 am
Quantity over quality …I love it!
December 31st, 2010 at 12:29 am
What a great idea! Thanks for the support and encouragement, Word Press.
To my fellow bloggers and budding writers: May you be blessed with inspiration, discipline and perseverance throughout the New Year.
Best wishes for a great 2011!
December 31st, 2010 at 1:52 am
Thank you! Same to you and All!!! Seriously can’t wait till 2011!
December 31st, 2010 at 12:33 am
Very inspirational. Sometimes people need a fire under their butts.
December 31st, 2010 at 12:44 am
Sounds like something for me to try. Hopefully I will succeed in the once a week one. Thanks!
December 31st, 2010 at 12:47 am
Any prizes for post a week and post a day winner?
December 31st, 2010 at 12:51 am
Very cool. The idea of once a day is a lttle scary right now, but once a week or two or three times is doable. Let’s see what happens.
Happy New Year!
December 31st, 2010 at 1:06 am
wish you best luck and best wishes
December 31st, 2010 at 1:07 am
This is a great idea! I had been trying to blog everyday and mostly successful, but now that I have made the commitment there’s no backing out! Thanks for the boost! Happy blogging everyone!

December 31st, 2010 at 1:27 am
This is great! Timely inspiration for me taking into consideration that I released a weekly blog yesterday! This is my first adventure in blogging and I just hope to contribute with useful stuff to my industry and engage my colleagues. It was soooo hard to press that “publish” button (the 1st entry was published unknowingly while learning how to get around the Word Press site).
December 31st, 2010 at 1:39 am
Interesting…is there a prize?
December 31st, 2010 at 1:39 am
This is a terrific way for the WordPress.com team to support its bloggers. I sincerely appreciate your encouragement and support and look forward to seeing what’s up on the Daily Post blog.
At the same time…. Everyone should do what they are inspired to do for sure. However, I personally think it’s crazy to post once a day to your blog in this age of information overload. I just wrote a post called “Blogging: Passion or Obession?” on this topic. I personally don’t subscribe to blogs that post once a day. It’s too much information in my in-box. I post twice a week and enjoying reading blogs by those who post once or twice a week.
I’m definitely a fan of quality over quantity! It will be interesting to see how many people sign up for once a day vs. once a week. Let us know!

December 31st, 2010 at 1:48 am
Fantastic… i love it
December 31st, 2010 at 2:14 am
Great feature for getting lots of empty words!
December 31st, 2010 at 2:21 am
The reason I started this blog was to force myself to write something every day. Two year anniversary this weekend and still going strong.
Yeah, there are days when it is hard…but that’s why I want and need the discipline. I encourage anyone considering it to make a reasonable and attainable goal and then go for it.
December 31st, 2010 at 2:24 am
This really is a great idea and I want to participate, but I’m terrified of failure. I’m I the only one brave enough to admit this?
December 31st, 2010 at 2:40 am
Pretty cool idea. Thanks for sharing!!
December 31st, 2010 at 2:45 am
That is great!
We would like to have more helps and tools for an easier blogging
December 31st, 2010 at 2:45 am
This is what I was done before
-write long, a series how-to article, tips, analysis or something useful for readers
-break it into several pieces of posts
-make scheduled postings, daily or weekly.
WP is very generous by providing ideas, suggestion for posting. it will make easier for us.
happy blogging, more posting !!
December 31st, 2010 at 3:10 am
Thank you for the information, May God blesss you with your love ones. Happy New Year!!!
December 31st, 2010 at 3:18 am
this is crazy
i know people to have writer’s block but publishing anything daily / weekly might be a good idea to keep them away from the blocks! still feel that the deeper thoughts and ideas would require more time
December 31st, 2010 at 3:30 am
Great idea, but I think I will stick with quality over quantity
December 31st, 2010 at 3:59 am
I’m so excited.
December 31st, 2010 at 4:09 am
Though I tried a couple of times and dropped out (from blogging), I think I will start with 2011 and this article is really a motivator.
December 31st, 2010 at 4:09 am
This sounds great a great idea . I will be a challenge . Maybe I can start off by only writing a line or two , or posting a quote. I certainly need to form new habits !

I wish I had the fortitude to post JUST once a day. I have to limit myself, and I have just started. I have years of digital photos I have been dumping on facebook. Like I need to hide pictures of flowers to friends only! At least now I can chill on my blog to see my pictures instead of skulking FB. People think I’m a FB addict, when I am really looking at my Texas Star Hibiscus photos.
If you take pictures, you can easily meet the goal of once a day. I recently saw a blog where they put a picture of a recent painting in progress or photo of their something cool once a day. Srsly, you can post your picture and discuss it in two sentences. Truth be told, I already have used up 20% of the memory on the free account. And, frankly, this post kinda seems a push to get you to pay for memory space. However, you did start blogging for a reason, right? The hardest part of painting is facing a blank canvas.

Good looks!
December 31st, 2010 at 4:35 am
if you go to my personal blog from 2009 almost every day i post at least 1 blog/ 1 article
December 31st, 2010 at 4:40 am
Hmmm. Getting into a regular writing routine was my motivation for a blog. I look forward to getting my motivation motivated. I`m in for a post a day….gulp! Cheers and best wishes to all.
December 31st, 2010 at 4:53 am
Hey Scott Berkun,
Thanks for such a wonderful update! Its very useful for bloggers like me!
Awesome! Keep it up
December 31st, 2010 at 5:19 am
I love the concept, I started blogging six months ago, I have tried to do a new article every week day. I know have over 100 blog articles that support my position as an expert in my field. Oh, I also got a 40% increase in traffice this month from last month.

You guys are really coming up with some fantastic ideas of late! We all need some inspiration, what to write about? Will others find it boring? Most of our every day lives aren’t all that exciting so this is a great idea to encourage us all to blog more often!
December 31st, 2010 at 5:26 am
What a great idea! However, one thing: can we do catch up posting?
I am on call for sometimes as frequently as thrice a week, and well, when those days draw to an end, all I long for is crashing on my bed! Blogging, food, untying my shoes: they all have a much, much lower ranking!
And as always, wordpress.com keeps getting better and better! Cheerios.
Wish all you guys over at wordpress.com and all wordpressers a great new 2011!
December 31st, 2010 at 5:31 am
Think I will go in on the post a week challenge
December 31st, 2010 at 5:32 am
I’m considering joining post a week. It’s probably about my pace. Post a day sounds a bit intimidating right now. Best wishes to all in the New Year!
December 31st, 2010 at 5:51 am
We’ve had a very encouraging year in 2010 and plan to go full throttle in the new year. We probably won’t be blogging once a day but more like every third day. Posting a little more than once a week gives us a chance to work through the recipes.
Cheers and Happy Prosperous New Year to all!

This is awesome
i just recently signed up.I like this idea.hope this experiment turns out good
December 31st, 2010 at 7:17 am
I don’t know that “Post-A-Day” is such a great idea. Writing something towards a post every day, maybe, but posting every day? Not for me!
December 31st, 2010 at 8:11 am
Give PostAWeek a spin. Or Post a month. It’s up to you – no hard rules on this blog.
