Challenge for 2011: Want to blog more often?
There is a saying among writers: to write more, write more. The hardest part of blogging isn’t the tools – it’s what goes on between your ears. Many people start blogs with excitement, but lose courage when facing the blank post page, or chicken out before hitting publish. Here at WordPress.com, we know. And we’re here to help.
Announcing DailyPost.WordPress.com
Starting today, you can go to dailypost.wordpress.com for inspiration, encouragement and advice about blogging. We’ll be posting every day so you can get regular boosts of motivation to blog more often.
The Post Every Day challenge
Daily habits are the best way to make change happen. If you can remember to do something every day, by the end of the year, you’ll have done that thing over 300 times! Simple and amazing.
As part of the DailyPost, we’re launching two campaigns:
- Post a Day 2011: Post something to your blog every single day through 2011
- Post a Week 2011: Post to your blog at least once a week through 2011
If you’re thinking big, sign up for PostADay. If you’re haven’t posted in ages, or have never posted at all, PostAWeek might be your speed. Still noble and bold, but perhaps more your style.
And of course, feel free to set your own goal – sign up as if you were doing PostAWeek, just so we can keep tabs on what you’re up to.
How to Join:
You can sign up any time – it’s okay if you are reading this on January 15th, or May 5th, or whenever. Join up – it will help you post more, which makes us happy.
Signing up is simple – do the following:
- Post on your blog, right now, that you’re participating
- (You can grab a sample post from dailypost.wordpress.com)
- Use the tag postaday2011 or postaweek2011 in your posts (tips on tagging here)
- Go to dailypost.wordpress.com
- Subscribe to dailypost.wordpress.com- you’ll get reminders and inspirations every day to help you bring your full potential to your WordPress blog!
If you need a new blog, go here first to get one fast.
That’s all for now. For more, check dailypost.wordpress.com real soon!

really wanna try this…is it restricted to only posting in english though?
December 31st, 2010 at 8:12 am
You can post on your blog in any language you wish, including Klingon, Esperanto, or a language you make up that only you know. But do tag in english so we can find you.

……Terrific Motivation….keep it up…! Happy New Year to All of you in WordPress !
December 31st, 2010 at 7:53 am
PostADay may suit some blog themes where surface-oriented content is the order of the day, but I would like to see PostAWeek or PostEveryThreeDays for us bloggers who consistently present 300 to 500 word posts. This thought-provoking content type requires a considerable time allotment for reader comments to run their course.

Very interesting. Maybe I am going to join in the postaweek2011!
December 31st, 2010 at 8:50 am
This is excellent, I love a great challenge. Thank you for starting this.
December 31st, 2010 at 9:18 am
wow, it’s good…
but i still new, so i don’t understand too….
December 31st, 2010 at 9:36 am
I’m in, even if it’s only one word (but it will be meaningful!)
December 31st, 2010 at 9:53 am
This is a really good idea! I think I’m in
December 31st, 2010 at 10:40 am
posting every day is actually my goal this year. i’ve got a little planner thing with blogs scheduled ((right now i’m scheduled all the way through may). i will definitely be signing up for the postaday thing. because that’s my goal
December 31st, 2010 at 10:40 am
I don’t think I will have a problem with the post a day thing since my idea of blog posts is wide. I consider my blog an integral part of the year ahead of me and I’m up for this challenge.
December 31st, 2010 at 10:53 am
This is cool indeed! I’d love to participate, but traveling most of the time I hardy can find time to post every day.. Often have no internet on the road
Is there any application for Nokia mobile phones so that I could blog everyday using my phone?)
December 31st, 2010 at 1:52 pm
Indeed there is: http://nokia.wordpress.org/
December 31st, 2010 at 11:53 am
It’s nice, but… there is some challenge or final target?
Recently the Perl community, did a “post each 10 days competition”, with this rules from the organizer:
“If I lose, I’m gonna let you guys pick a colour and a theme, and I’ll do a talk about that theme with my hair dyed on that colour”
(It means a Perl related Talk, at a Perl conference).
… He lost the challenge (but people still keep posting each 10 days) and the result is online: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPBL3-D84cQ
December 31st, 2010 at 12:23 pm
I’d like to also point people in the direction of The One A Day Project, a group of creative types who are making similar commitments. We’re also raising money for Cancer Research UK and To Write Love On Her Arms. Feel free to join up, or at least come and support us.
Thanks!
December 31st, 2010 at 12:50 pm
I’m in just posted on my portuguese blog that i’ll be posting at least once a week.
Let’s see…:P
December 31st, 2010 at 12:58 pm
I’d love to try out the post a day challenge, but I can’t imagine I’ll be able to push out quality content on a day to day basis. I’m sure a few of my subscribers would abandon me quite quickly.
So I’m wondering: Is there a way to have two WordPress(.com) blogs that are brought together under one website? Or in WP terms, is it possible to create a ‘page’ on your blog that is a secondary blog which subscribers wont get emailed to them?
December 31st, 2010 at 1:11 pm
Neat Idea… I have started so many blogs and they all fizzle out, so I’m a bit skeptical. But this is a fantastic idea and I am looking forward to checking out some of the blogs of participants.
December 31st, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Happy New Year’s.
my photoblog is daily photography of my city in Iran.
please visited my photoblog and leave comment on pictures. thank’s
December 31st, 2010 at 1:12 pm
Ok, now I am little bit confuse. For the Challenge we blog on our page, not here, am I correct?
Happy New Year, babies!
December 31st, 2010 at 1:51 pm
Yes – you blog on your own blog. We will be blogging here every day, so we’ve got this blog covered
December 31st, 2010 at 1:32 pm
This is a good idea.
When I started my blog, I intended to post something at least once a week and thought that would be relatively easy as I do have a lot to say, normally. However, work tends to get in the way and often I find that another week has gone by and my blog is “postless”
I will try to do better in the “Year of the Rabbit” – perhaps it will be an aptly named year for the blogging community!
Have a great New Year everyone
December 31st, 2010 at 1:40 pm
Muy buena idea Scott!!!!
December 31st, 2010 at 1:43 pm
I can manage once a week. I’m kinda busy at school.
)
December 31st, 2010 at 1:52 pm
Does this mean I have to reduce to one post per day?
December 31st, 2010 at 2:02 pm
I don’t know what to do now I already post a day, especially I want to be a writer but I’m not entirely sure
December 31st, 2010 at 2:05 pm
What a challenge and I am going to sign up. It will be very interesting to see what direction things go everyday.
December 31st, 2010 at 2:08 pm
I sometimes ask me if I want to blog more, and usually the answer is yes. But then I think again and find myself preferring quality over quantity. If I blogged every day, I would write awful blog posts just to make up something…
December 31st, 2010 at 2:20 pm
Where was this last year? Today will be my 365 post of the year. I don’t know if I have it in me again.
December 31st, 2010 at 2:25 pm
it’s good
December 31st, 2010 at 3:37 pm
I accept the challenge. I will post every day in 2011. What the heck, I already did it on my own in 2010 and then some, so this will just be more of the same. But now it will be official. Heh.
December 31st, 2010 at 3:40 pm
wish it was possible…..is not.
There are days we cannot access the computer, there are vacation days when we don’t WANT to get to it…….
December 31st, 2010 at 3:45 pm
Julia: There is a feature that can help you: Schedule a Post.
You can tell WordPress to publish something for you hours or days in advance.
And of course, since we’re encouraging PostAWeek as well, committing to once a week might better fit your goals and lifestyle.
December 31st, 2010 at 4:19 pm
Thank you, WordPress, for challenging us to write a post every day. I accepted your challenge and created a new blog especially for the occasion.

This is really great! I’ve been trying to post everyday for the past 6 months and sometimes it’s really hard to find inspiration or motivation.
I’m glad you guys are offering this type of support and I hope it helps me meet my blogging goals in 2011! I’ve had such a horrible 2010 and blogging on WordPress has saved me from losing my mind. Thanks to the WordPress staff for all that you do.
December 31st, 2010 at 4:43 pm
I signed up for a blog in my name at wordpress.com for almost two years ago. I made my first post today, and will continue at least one post a week. My personal goal is to get convenient in express myself in English.
December 31st, 2010 at 5:28 pm
…i think that the most important what we write, not how often…
Happy New Year for the WordPress community!
December 31st, 2010 at 5:31 pm
Signed up and posted!
Will you be taking part Mr. Berkun?
- Phil
December 31st, 2010 at 5:56 pm
I love the idea. Actually I decided to do a once a week challenge on my latest post, so I an definitely joining you! I add my personal touch: I assure my readers a cake recipe twice a month! In the end, I will even post everyday, but not always on my personal blog. Don’t worry wordpress, I am using your free tools for my professional portfolio and projects as well! Have a happy new year fellow bloggers!
December 31st, 2010 at 6:06 pm
Is there a button/badge I can put up on my blog (and link back to The Daily Post’s blog) to show people I’m participating in Post A Week 2011?
December 31st, 2010 at 6:56 pm

Exciting! Am I up to the post a day challenge? Hmmmm, I need a night to sleep on it! Posted my 101 post today! Who knew, apparently doing something every other day (or so) adds up too! Thanks WP for keeping me on track!
December 31st, 2010 at 7:17 pm
Thanks for inspiring me to revive my dormant blog. This is a great idea. Good luck y’all, and happy new year!
December 31st, 2010 at 7:34 pm
I’m already doing a 30 day blogging challenge, why not try a year?
December 31st, 2010 at 7:50 pm
Well, count me in for Post a Week! =)
December 31st, 2010 at 7:50 pm
I’m going to attempt to revive the horribly neglected blog I started a year ago (and abandoned almost immediately afterwards) and post on it once a week. As if that wasn’t unlikely enough in itself (knowing my track record), I started yet another new blog yesterday and am going to attempt a post a day on that one. Maybe I should just combine the two. Hm.
December 31st, 2010 at 8:07 pm
I kinda did this already in 2010. I was posting like every day.Usually it was a video or a photo in my posts. After almost a year i want to have a brake so i will post less. But i think i will post more better. The time will go and i will figure it out.
Happy New Year everyone!
December 31st, 2010 at 8:37 pm
What a great challenge. I’m in!
December 31st, 2010 at 8:42 pm
It just reminds me of Twitter. But an interesting idea!
December 31st, 2010 at 8:43 pm
yes, I’m in! One Post a week, it’s possible.
December 31st, 2010 at 8:47 pm
Maybe what I need, I did post 365 photos in 2009, 2010 has found me running out of steam. I really appreciate all that the wizards at WordPress do.
December 31st, 2010 at 8:58 pm
omg!!! this is THE problem…. i have a post which says how lazy i m to write a post…. how i abandon writing blogposts midway…. one of my resolutions was to write a post every single da. just wow…. -_-
December 31st, 2010 at 9:21 pm
I generally try to have a post up for Saving America on the weekends. I’ve been running it for several months and have missed only a few weeks. Here’s to another successful year for all of us on WordPress!
December 31st, 2010 at 10:01 pm
I have a question: do we tag every Post-A-(timespan) post, or just our announcement posts?
December 31st, 2010 at 10:28 pm
Sounds great! Thanks for posting
