New Theme: Château
Today we are introducing an elegantly designed and typographically pleasing theme, Château.
The Château Theme
Designed by Ignacio Ricci, Château has been crafted with close attention to detail and typography. Its beautiful, minimalist look allows you to make your content the focal point of your blog.
Aside from a brilliant design, this theme offers many cool features that help you to personalize your blog. There are two color schemes, three layout options, custom accent color, Custom Header Image, Custom Background, six widget areas, and three post formats — Aside, Gallery, and Image. It’s loaded with options that make the theme flexible enough to fit a variety of sites.

I agree that the template is rather elegant. I would select it for sure if I were into a classical, serene niche. I’m viewing it from my mobile and I can help thinking that it would be perfectly suited for a church, monarchy, wine and cheese or wedding. Seems so laid back, quiet and soothing!

Hi – forgive my lack of knowledge (ergo my question)… – but can i find this theme available for self-hosted blogs? i was looking for this theme from the “install themes” but couldn’t locate it. any guidance for this lost-in-space-but-so-in-love-with-this-theme? many thanks.

Unfortunately, this version of Chateau is not available for self-hosted WordPress blog at the moment. Hopefully it becomes available soon so please keep an eye on it

I too like this theme a lot. I am new to WP.com (used wp.org several times) and just happened to sign-up the day this was released. I was drawn to it right away.
The only issue I have is the the Date Font doesn’t display all that clearly in the “Light” scheme, except with FireFox. Chrome/IE the font is choppy looking. On the Dark scheme it looks fine.
Because of the Font issue I checked out all the other Free themes and none grabbed me the way Chateau did. I opted for the Light mode with an off-white background image. Still looks great in FireFox, but is a little jagged in IE. (All the more reason for people to abandon IE!!!)
Anyway, LOVE IT.

I am thoroughly enjoying this theme. I have it in dark, which is different from what is pictured above, and I chose a picture of a California sunrise instead of the original header image, and I have to say, it looks FANTASTIC with the original fonts.

I LOVE this–but I would need to have an option to hide my blog title–I already have it in my header image and it makes the space at the top too big and clunky if I don’t remove it. Good work, thank you!

Love the theme. How do you place that symbol over the ‘a”?
The theme does not show up in WordPress theme search from my actual blog and am thinking this is why.

You don’t need to type the accent to find it. Alternatively, if you browse themes in A-Z, Chateau will appear in the second page.

This is a very elegant theme; calls for something very special as well as a slightly elevated writing style. You have a wonderful design sense and the black, white, and grey are restful after all the color.

It comes with a dark color scheme too. If that’s not dark enough you can customize the background with a darker color.

I like it and tried it but didn’t last long. The main problem is the font, I really don’t like it and couldn’t change it.

If you would like to change the font, how about considering Custom Fonts? It’s a part of Custom Design upgrade and it allows you to easily add Typekit fonts to your blog!

Saw this theme yesterday and tried it on the Radio Adelaide Jazz Blog. Suddenly it looks professional and have had comment that the content has improved! If only they knew!!!

I looked around for a new theme for my photography blog a little while back, and couldn’t find anything I really liked. Then you guys came out with this
I like it a lot, but it would be really nice if it said “READ PREVIOUS POSTS ” instead of “READ PREVIOUS ARTICLES”, and if you could have a thumbnail of a featured image appear with the little blurb. Still, really nice theme, and I like the “frame” that goes around the images. Good job!
