New Theme: Nishita
Nishita is a simple, minimally-styled photoblogging theme—now available for WordPress.com blogs. With a choice of dark or light color scheme, the muted design puts all the focus on your photos. Not only is this theme designed for photos, it loves big photos: the default layout is super-wide at 1024 pixels.
Theme options include two layout choices: “Photoblog” at 1024 pixels wide, or “Blog” at 768 pixels wide. For an even more reduced photoblog look, you could change your WordPress.com reading settings to show one post per page, and thus only one image will show at a time on your front page.
This photo-loving theme also uses post thumbnails to show a small version of images on your archive pages. Personalize it with a custom background, header image, and menu.
Learn more about this Nishita—and how to set it up for maximum photoblog awesomeness—over on the Theme Showcase. This theme is based on the original design by Brajeshwar.

Finally! A beautiful photoblog theme that can showcase large photographs. Thank you WP!

Wow! A black theme! It’s great!
September 14th, 2011 at 4:55 pm
This is one is awesome. It IS perfect for photographs… thanks!

“Maximum photoblog awesomeness” — definitely achieved through this theme!
I’m very excited about the width of this layout … I’ll be experimenting with it.
Thank you!

I think this is a gorgeous theme with great features. Many photobloggers have been looking for a wide theme like this one that will display large images and the default layout is super-wide at 1024 pixels on Nishita. Not only that, but the theme automatically creates thumbnails of images on archive pages and photobloggers have been seeking that too.. I’m sure there will be a lot of bloggers switching to this theme today.
Thanks for adding this great theme.

Fantastic, just what I was looking for.
September 14th, 2011 at 7:23 pm
Shows photos really well!
September 14th, 2011 at 7:54 pm
I’m digging this one.
September 14th, 2011 at 9:21 pm
Just beautiful. The wide layout is going to be a big draw, but the whole design is lovely.
September 14th, 2011 at 9:39 pm
I just had closer look and found it enchanting, both for blogs with lot of photos and blog which focus on quality text the most. The theme is quite smart, optional Header, Header Text and three widgets in footer along with sidebar is perfect. Anyone hesitant with this theme, add my YES and use it now.
September 14th, 2011 at 9:41 pm
This gives WP a Tumblr feel to it. Not a bad thing!
September 14th, 2011 at 10:27 pm
Congratulations! Very beautiful. This theme is perfect for a photoblog.
Thank you!
September 14th, 2011 at 10:27 pm
A joy for every photoblogger … the missing theme … big thanks!!
September 14th, 2011 at 10:28 pm
I love this, more dark themes and wide ones please!
September 14th, 2011 at 11:10 pm
Oh, this theme is so cool. Even if it’s not a photoblog it’s very awesome and stylish. =) I’m using it now in my blog.
Thank you very much.
September 14th, 2011 at 11:37 pm
Yes. This is it. Great work! I think I’ll change my present template.
September 14th, 2011 at 11:45 pm
Wow, seems great, I have to try it! Could enhance some of my pictures! Thanks!
September 15th, 2011 at 1:04 am
Coolness… I’ve always wanted to do a photo blog.
September 15th, 2011 at 1:34 am
Really like the minimal distraction of the dark background, the ability to show large photos and thumbnails. This seems like a winner!
September 15th, 2011 at 1:51 am
Wow, 1024 pixels width… this is what I looking for! Really like this theme, compared to Modularity Lite, this is the best photoblog theme as of now.
September 15th, 2011 at 2:09 am
Definitely great
September 15th, 2011 at 4:06 am
Thanks. Cute.
September 15th, 2011 at 4:38 am
I was almost happy with it, when I realized that the image width drops to 720 when u add a side bar. You are right it becomes a pain when the text goes across thru the width of 1024. Can we have some themes with 900px wide not including the side bar and a footer.
The theme is simple and nice, just does not work for me.
September 15th, 2011 at 5:57 am
I love this! Photos are large and the basic dark background helps with the contrast. Switching now!
September 15th, 2011 at 6:12 am
I really like the style. its elegant and very attractive to look at…
September 15th, 2011 at 6:13 am
So I love this blog, with the large photos but I noticed that people can’t see my previous posts to the left. I’m worried that my previous posts won’t ever get viewed now. I’m a photographer and it’s really important that people have easy access to older posts, Is there a way to still use this style and also have my previous posts visible? Even if it’s not to the left but maybe up top or at the bottom of the page? Can I install this somehow. I’m not super savvy with WordPress yet, so any help is appreciated. Thanks:)

Hi there, previous posts will be below your newest post. To see them, readers can just scroll down they page as with most WordPress themes, but different than Duotone, which you might be thinking of.
September 15th, 2011 at 8:19 am
Thank you WP! I’ve been looking out for this one for ages, even contemplated on the fee paying ones; not as striking and effective! I switched over immediately last night.
Excellent Work and Thank You again!
September 15th, 2011 at 9:24 am
Maximum photoblog awesomeness! i ll say this too!

September 15th, 2011 at 9:26 am

September 15th, 2011 at 10:11 am
Gorgeous! Exactly what I need for my Paris photo blog! I’ll be changing to this theme (as soon as I get home from work!). Thanks Team!

“Nishita” is a Hindi word mean ‘beautiful night.’
September 15th, 2011 at 12:02 pm
It’s simple and beautiful!
September 15th, 2011 at 12:27 pm
Beautiful color contrast with your photo. Am currently learning the whole WP blog Game with my first blog as a “writer.” But I am a photographer also, so I will more than likely use this template. From what the other comments say, this one seems to be the best they have seen. I love it. And it also blends nicely with the simple black grunge theme I chose for the writing blog.
THanks
September 15th, 2011 at 4:56 pm
If only I could take photos…
September 15th, 2011 at 5:29 pm
Nice one! Simple too!
September 15th, 2011 at 6:22 pm
Oh I really LOVE you wordpress! I have waiting for this one for years!! thanks, i really mean it you’re the best!
September 15th, 2011 at 10:15 pm
Great theme, has almost everything I want, dark colour, can show off photo’s at last, yipee! and is nicely customisable as well.
The only slight niggle is the font size which is a wee bit too small and the font colour which could do with being white rather than grey, will there be any option to change these in future?
September 16th, 2011 at 4:48 am
Very artistic.
September 16th, 2011 at 5:31 am
It is really suitable for a photoblog.
September 16th, 2011 at 6:51 am
Wow! The response to this theme is amazing. I’m no longer the right person to be called the creator of Nishita. Lance and team have done an amazing job in bringing Nishita alive. BTW, for those wondering and asking, “Nishita” is the name of my niece – Nishita Oinam – http://www.flickr.com/photos/nishitaoinam/.
September 16th, 2011 at 11:18 am
Great theme – finally a nice simple theme to showcase photos – this is what I’ve been waiting for – thanks!
September 16th, 2011 at 7:22 pm
Beautiful! Simple and clean, and like was said before, perfect for photobloggers, just like my sister.
September 17th, 2011 at 4:09 am
You’ve shattered my apprehension by saying there was also a light colour scheme – black colour schemes weren’t in my mind. While I was giving the theme a look, I was very glad upon seeing it was 1024px wide and it had a beautiful, tidy and well-balanced design, even though I’m not aiming for a photoblog. Excited with the fresh new thumbnails archiving and costumization, I activated it without delay. The +sidebar scheme was a good surprise and the light colour scheme was even more delightful. Thank you, I mean it.

I always love that oriental feel.

Timethief said this: ” Not only that, but the theme automatically creates thumbnails of images on archive pages and photobloggers have been seeking that too.. I’m sure there will be a lot of bloggers switching to this theme today. Thanks for adding this great theme.”
I like that feature a lot and would like thumbnails on archived posts. However, I am not a photographer. Would this Nishita theme still work for a regular style blog that is mostly posts? I like Chateau, my present theme, but I don’t think that it allows archived posts to have thumbnails.
I like the Homepage layout of Nishita A LOT.
September 21st, 2011 at 4:47 pm
Yes, it can work for blog style posting as well as photos.
September 20th, 2011 at 8:01 am
Simple and clean, a great theme for photographs and picture-oriented blogs. There seems like a lot of similar ones these days, perhaps a bigger focus that blogging is moving towards more pictures less words?
September 20th, 2011 at 5:22 pm
Awesome! This is indeed cool.
September 20th, 2011 at 8:28 pm
Looks great!
September 20th, 2011 at 8:50 pm
I guess photobloggers will go wild with this theme. It is extraordinary!
September 22nd, 2011 at 8:13 am
Really awesome….something different is always praised..

Really nice. Now, if only I had more photos to share.
