It’s getting cold in here
Oh the weather outside is frightful,
but this blog is sooo delightful
Until the internet gets slow,
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
That’s right, it’s that special time of year where you can show off your holiday cheer with a little special blog flair — falling snow. To get it started:
- Go to your dashboard.
- Navigate to Settings » General.
- Check the box next to “Show falling snow on this blog.”
- Roast some chestnuts.
Even Texas boys like me who only saw snow a handful of times growing up can enjoy it all month long, until we turn it off on January 4th.
If you are a terrible Grinch or if the snow just slows down your computer or confuses your cat, you can go to your personal settings page and hide the snow everywhere you go.

Wow! Just love how cool the snow is!!
December 2nd, 2011 at 7:53 am
Thank you for the falling snow
Cheered me up.
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:06 am
Done. Thanks for the post, love it.
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:12 am
Thanks WP! The snow looks good on the windmills!
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:13 am
Got so excited for a minute, but then realised that it isn’t an option for a WordPress.org site….or is there a way of adding this on???
December 5th, 2011 at 8:42 pm
Try this plugin if you have a WordPress.org site: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/let-it-snow/
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:17 am
Awesome dude. It is also getting cold in my place.
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:18 am
Great idea! It does not snow in Barcelona, but I love the idea for my blog and I have activated the option!!!
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:34 am
Snow
Just what a penguin needs.
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:43 am
Great, thank you!
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:47 am
wonderful idea , but the music ? when?
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:52 am
Oh, I forgot to add .. my blog readers are complimenting me now on being a computer whiz by putting this snow thing on my blog. I wish I could take the credit but I tell them it’s you WordPress guys making me look good.
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:58 am
There must be quite a few of your users in the southern hemisphere – why not have a setting for us showing a warm summer sun.
December 2nd, 2011 at 9:10 am
Thank you so much, Dear Matt!
December 2nd, 2011 at 9:10 am
Enabled! I like that it’s not overwhelming: sweet little snowflakes now brighten up my blog until January 4th. Thanks, WordPress people!
December 2nd, 2011 at 9:17 am
Lovely with snow! Thank you:-)
December 2nd, 2011 at 9:32 am
Really? I can’t believe how awesome this is, I just home I’m talented enough to make this work… less sun equals less intelligence for me, but it seems simple enough… really, really thanks for this. I might be showing how much of a nerd I am, but this has seriously made my day!
December 2nd, 2011 at 9:34 am
Absolutely cute! I switched my Twenty-11 theme to the dark option, which highlights even further the white snow.
Thanks a lot for the present
December 2nd, 2011 at 9:59 am
Bellissimo! Grazie!!!
December 2nd, 2011 at 10:02 am
Thanx such a lot for doing it again this year. I was hoping and waiting for it.
December 2nd, 2011 at 10:58 am
Wonderful. Also that photo.
Those dark glasses will keep you from going snow blind in case you go skiing on some glacier in Texas. It is very very painful to get snow blind, and there would be several days of house arrest sitting in the dark.
December 2nd, 2011 at 10:59 am
I’ts great! Now, I’am waiting for a relaxing waterfall… Congratulations
Thanks
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:01 am
I’m just searching something for my blog like that! ^^ can do it for free? (it must pay..?)
December 5th, 2011 at 8:40 pm
The snow feature is free! To turn it on for your blog, just check the snow option at the bottom of the Settings → General page in your WordPress.com blog dashboard.
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:11 am
I’ve always loved and looked forward to snowy WordPress every year. But it seems it doesn’t show on iPhone
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:11 am
it`s realy cool season of year!!!:) i like when snow falling on the ground! and winter holidays as Christmas and New Year:)!!! cool blog:)
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:12 am
It is also very nice of Matt in his message to have thought of somebody’s cat that might get confused by the falling flakes.
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:13 am
I love the falling snow on my blog !!!!!!!!! Thank you !!!
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:19 am
thank you very much !!! Have a nice winter ! <3
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:20 am
I’m sorry..but I don’t see the snow in my blog…. why? I’haven’t the right theme?
December 5th, 2011 at 7:40 pm
The theme shouldn’t matter. Can you try making sure the snow option is checked on your main settings page and then try clearing your browser cache?
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:26 am
I love the snow! even if we don’t have them here in the Philippines!
And I’d like to see Fireworks this coming New Year!
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:27 am
Thank you, I love snow. Have a wonderful day!
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:29 am
The best video, I love it
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:30 am
Lovin the Snow – Thx
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:36 am
Fine! But could we (the inhabitans of the Southern Hemisphere) get the option in our winter time (21 july / 20 september)?
“The South also exists!” (an Argentine singer/composer wrote … )
December 2nd, 2011 at 11:42 am
Great tip presented in a novel and festive manner!
Tweeted it!
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:08 pm
This is so cool! Thanks!
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:18 pm
Sounds great, but I am with Pete. Its summer here!!!! A snowy blog is silly this time of year for all of us southern hemispherers , can you make it available in our winter too??
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:23 pm
Had mine activated, yayy!!! Loved it! Thanks WP!
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:25 pm
Wow…brilliant! I think I’ll save mine until my Christmas song is ready to post
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:29 pm
I love it! Thank you for my first gift of the season.
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:34 pm
Well done. Cheered me up.
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:35 pm
Wow, thanks Matt! We don’t have snow here but thanks for this feature, looks like snow is falling down the Philippines…
Happy Holidays to you all! Stay blessed!
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:42 pm
Great ! I look forward to seeing the snow falling on my xmas background ! Love it. Thanks so much for it.
December 2nd, 2011 at 12:47 pm
Thanks for reactivating the snow…even though some of us Canadian northerners don’t need the reminder. I’m cycling slowly across ice where I am now.
At least the snow looks lovely falling gently against my Prague blog post this time!
December 2nd, 2011 at 1:24 pm
Great ! But where does the snow go ?!!
December 2nd, 2011 at 1:25 pm
Living in Florida we rarely see snow here, So we see it on the internet and on tv.
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:07 pm
Smells the holiday all around. Help the needy and be at peace.
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:12 pm
Cool, I love it. Now I just need to change my default page background to something a little darker than white.
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:19 pm
It’s about time.
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:21 pm
I love it! Thanks! Let it snow
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:25 pm
Love the snow!!! This is fantastic!!! ~Sophia
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:25 pm
Very COOL! No pun intended, I live in Florida.
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:28 pm
Thanks Matt–been trying to figure out how to get the snow on my blog–they’ve changed where to find it this year! Cheers!
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:30 pm
It does not work yet, why ?
December 5th, 2011 at 7:31 pm
First, you need to enable it on the Settings → General page in your blog dashboard. If you still don’t see it working, try clearing your browser cache and cookies and then reload your blog home page.
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:30 pm
Looks pretty nice, thanks!
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:44 pm
This is fun, we live in Las Vegas so don’t get to see much of the white stuff!
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:48 pm
Love it!! Great poem/song
December 2nd, 2011 at 2:53 pm
The snow is just perfect! We’re blogging about log homes, and nothing makes a log home look more cozy than a dusting of snow. Thanks so much!
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:05 pm
I love it, it’s very cool.
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:13 pm
Thanks so much for that tip. There’s snow falling on my blog now! Happy Holidays!
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:13 pm
Did I mention that this may be the only way I have snow here in Southern Louisiana? Near the gulf?
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:19 pm
It’s good for the blogs! I like it!
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:35 pm
Sorry and thanks, now I found the solution !! I love it as every year ! Regards from Germany ! 8)
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:40 pm
Ok – I’ve been to some of the other sites from the people posting on this page and they have snow. But I don’t have that option anywhere on Settings>>General. What am I doing wrong?
December 5th, 2011 at 7:36 pm
It’s at the bottom of the main settings page. Just to make sure, is your blog setup here at WordPress.com? See http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ to learn about the differences.
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:54 pm
Fun and fabulous! Thanks for the tip. Now if the weather in Boston ever gets cold again, I will absolutely have that coming down on my blog one day soon. And I hope it does, because I love snow and the recent mid-60F degree weather is freaking me out! (Though conducive to lovely long runs outside…)
December 2nd, 2011 at 3:59 pm
I went to settings / general and see no “falling snow” option? I have upgraded to the latest version.
December 5th, 2011 at 7:42 pm
The snow feature is setup for WordPress.com blogs, see http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
December 2nd, 2011 at 4:11 pm
Thank you for this. I’m so busying writing and promoting I don’t have time to sit and explore all the details of the sites I’m on. Happy Holidays. Jan
December 2nd, 2011 at 4:42 pm
Wow its really cold here I’m used to 95 dregee weather!
December 2nd, 2011 at 4:54 pm
I’ve only shoveled snow twice in the last couple weeks. Now it’s all melted. Not to worry. It’ll be back in full force soon. It gives everything a nice clean look. I do like your gently flowing flakes. Thanks.
December 2nd, 2011 at 5:14 pm
Love it!
December 2nd, 2011 at 5:24 pm
Yay! Thank you! I’ve been waiting for this! : )
December 2nd, 2011 at 5:29 pm

Welcome to WordPress.com!
December 2nd, 2011 at 6:07 pm
Fantastic thank you is there any way I could load the Frank Sinatra track on one of my WordPress pages so it starts to play when the page is opened up without pasting a picture and prompt to click on link etc please?
December 5th, 2011 at 7:45 pm
We don’t provide an option to autostart YouTube videos on WordPress.com, and it’s much better not to use autoplay!
December 2nd, 2011 at 6:09 pm
WooHoo! My blog now matches the snowy weather outside!
December 2nd, 2011 at 6:17 pm
Thanks! Love this special little feature!

can’t believe time flies so fast. another year is going to end. but while we wait for the new year to come, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
thanks guys for the snow! (as always)
December 2nd, 2011 at 7:02 pm
Ok , ok- I read the guidelines,
hi, my name’s Perreaoult.
Well, the snow is interesting and I do feel it would be interesting to have it snow on my blog or web site, I really don’t know if I would like the atmosphere it would convey. As opposed too the emotion I’m trying to convey.
December 2nd, 2011 at 7:12 pm
Will do right away! I didn’t realize I had to turn it on this year–in the past it’s just started snowing which is lovely and a fun surprise!
Thanks & happy holidays!
December 2nd, 2011 at 7:15 pm

December 2nd, 2011 at 8:15 pm
thanks its now snowing lol
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:22 pm
Another year for the snow, you should make fall at twice the rate.
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:41 pm
Whee! And may this be the only place I see snow this winter …
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:44 pm
I love the snow! Thank you! Any way you could make money fall from the sky, though? Just wondering.
December 2nd, 2011 at 8:58 pm
Ha, that’s fun. I saw that on someone’s post and thought my eyes were going wonky!
December 2nd, 2011 at 9:25 pm
I like the idea but I wouldn’t want to sully all the flags on my blog. Maybe if you added some red and blue? Maybe for July 4th?
December 5th, 2011 at 7:56 pm
Your flags would probably look fine with the snow! We don’t have plans to add red and blue… but it’s an interesting idea. Cheers.
December 2nd, 2011 at 9:29 pm
Aw… The wait is finally over.
December 2nd, 2011 at 9:38 pm
Winter already knocked our doors here in Canada.
This year it might be difficult. Who knows !!!!!
December 2nd, 2011 at 9:50 pm
Thanks for the tip! I looooove the Holiday season
December 2nd, 2011 at 9:51 pm

December 2nd, 2011 at 10:27 pm
Lovely! Sadly I’m all the way in the Tropics so snow on my blog might get my friends thinking I’ve gone nuts.
Enjoy the snow!!!!
December 5th, 2011 at 7:51 pm
I’m not sure being in the Tropics is sad…
You can enjoy watching the snow on some of our other blogs if you check out Freshly Pressed on the WordPress.com home page.
December 2nd, 2011 at 10:43 pm
Wishing all a wonderful Holiday Season over the coming weeks!
December 5th, 2011 at 7:53 pm

December 2nd, 2011 at 11:16 pm

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

December 3rd, 2011 at 3:54 am
Thanks for the snow to my blog, I really needed it because this winter I have NON. Also posted the Frank Sinatra song on Facebook and all of my fb-friends came in to a great Christmas mood.
You made my day
