Get Kids Blogging at the Digital Family Summit

Attending the Digital Family Summit this coming weekend in Baltimore, Maryland? Our own Karen Arnold will lead a workshop to teach kids and their families how to get started blogging on WordPress.com. Karen, along with Velda Christensen, Alx Block, and Jennifer Dodd will be on hand to teach kids and their families how to set up their WordPress.com blogs. The workshop will break into smaller groups to help kids customize their sites. The WordPress.com workshop takes place on Saturday, October 12th from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m.

Already registered and need some ideas on how to get started? What does your child/tween/teen love? Horses? Lego? Video Games? Books? Pets? Sports? Blogging about hobbies and interests is a great way to help kids learn more about what grabs their attention and meet other kids and families with the same interests. Kids also gain important digital literacy skills and learn how to be a good citizen of the internet.

Kids and families online

The Digital Family Summit helps kids, tweens, teens, and their families learn how to express themselves online and share, while helping them understand the importance of privacy and being safe in the digital world.

This sounds like such a great workshop. I remember journaling when I was growing up, its a great outlet – regardless of how old you are. Glad to see privacy being emphasized.

Are you going to produce a webinar for kids, or post something online? My middle school students will be s starting blogs in two weeks, it would be great for them to see.

      Hi Douglas,

We don’t have plans to produce a webinar for kids at the moment — though that’s an awesome idea.

That is awesome! I just set all my 6th grade students up a blog for our class. They have really been active and enjoy having their very own blog. I’m having a hard time keeping up with them! #digitalkids

What a great idea. I think I’ll approach some of the teachers at my school and see if there’s an interest in teaching some of our children how to start a blog. Maybe I’ll make it a club.
