Early Theme Adopters: Hemingway Rewritten
In our Early Theme Adopters series, we focus on bloggers creating great-looking sites with the most recent additions to our Theme Showcase. Today, let’s visit some of the sites that are already using Hemingway Rewritten, a free theme that makes both words and images shine.
Hemingway Rewritten‘s signature touch is its elegant parallax-scrolling header effect, which looks particularly striking against the theme’s full-width header image. But the clean, classic design is just as present in the theme’s distinct Post Formats and primary navigation menu in the header (which is customizable).
Let’s take a look at some of the striking sites that have adopted the theme since its launch a month ago.
Scribbles
Kathryn, the writer behind Scribbles, shares well-crafted thoughts and stories on her site. It’s a great example of Hemingway Rewritten‘s out-of-the-box look, where simply adding an enticing custom header image goes a long way toward creating a personal look and vibe.
A streamlined menu and judicious use of sidebar widgets complete Kathryn’s smart design.
Life, Love & Lucy
The multitalented Ami Kochendorfer built a beautiful, bright site using Hemingway Rewritten, while forgoing the theme’s recognizable black box for the site title and tagline.
Instead, she’s opted for an inviting custom header image putting her family front and center. Her header menu lets visitors explore her design and photography work on multiple platforms, from her Pinterest page and Instagram account to her Etsy store.
Aaron Buckley
Musician and composer Aaron Buckley uses Hemingway Rewritten for his professional site, where he shares his music as well as his writing on related topics. He chose to build a static homepage, where the splashy header image sets the tone and a SoundCloud player featuring his music draws visitors in.
Aaron’s been using another key feature of Hemingway Rewritten to great effect. He’s added a different featured image to each post; that image is then displayed in the post’s header, giving each one its own distinct look (compare, for example, his posts on playing the piano and on jazz improv).

Has anyone actually been brave enough to use this theme to rewrite some of Hemingway in “earnest?”

If I ever manage to sell “The Clouds of Mount Olympus” (an SF retelling of “The Snows of Kilamanjaro”), I’ll be sure to mention it on my blog. The downer ending may not fly in today’s market, though.

I really like this theme. Visually it’s so clean. I’ve had more compliments on my blog since I changed to it (and of course, feel free to pay it a visit!)

I don’t remember what the default theme was when I started my blog a few weeks back, but as soon as I found Hemingway Rewritten I latched onto it and haven’t considered any other themes.

I just started a blog this week and chose this theme for its clean look. Didn’t realize it was such a new theme. Still learning all the ways to customize it so love having real world samples of the same theme to look at.

I too changed my theme to Hemingway Rewritten over the past week. I love the fact you can have different headers for each page, and the simple, but clean overall look.

Sorry you don’t find mine worth a mention: I settled on this theme for its responsiveness, and have done a fair bit of CSS to make it nicer.

It worked great for me. I changed the header pic for one that I snapped in Italy 1 yr ago. Simple theme, for both writers and readers. Perfect.
