Today we’re proud to present a brand new free theme, designed especially for large organizations and government by Automattic’s own Michael Arestad.

Big Brother offers a clean and traditional design, multiple color schemes, and support for standard customization features. It’s a professional, readable theme that’s easy to tailor to your organization’s style.

Breadcrumb-style navigation on pages make even the largest sites a breeze to navigate, while the widget area keeps your secondary content close at hand. Start a blog to keep your members up-to-date on current happenings, or use the [sitemap] shortcode to create a quick, centralized location to list all of your organization’s important information.

    Oh wow, this looks very nice! I was actually looking for a theme of this kind — the only one that looked suitable for my purpose was a theme called Academia, but I was hesitant to use it because the theme is two years old and I wanted something even more modern.

    There are a plenty of beautiful blog and business themes available, but there aren’t enough choices for organisations and such — where you need more pages than posts and an easy way to navigate through a complex structure of the site. This new theme is a great addition 🙂

    I like this, so I implemented it but it broke the image galleries. Is there an issue with galleries?

    The theme looks solid but I’m not entirely thrilled with the name. “Big Brother” for something designed for government? I suppose it’s appropriate in some countries, though…

    I love the large, very readable text in this theme! I had been looking for something like this. I just activated, but am having a problem with my menu showing up when reducing the screen size and on iPhone. Please advise. I really want to use this theme.

    Finally there is it…. a template that meets my requirements. Minimal header, clean design and template where the content is focus and not the header or any other graphics and menus that could turn readers off. I waited for such a template for a long time 😀 Hope to see more of those modern, clean and minimalistic templates in the future!! I´ll test this one here but I believe this could be a very nice alternative to my Twenty Ten theme.

    Nice, simple and clean. But I’m not entirely sure about the name. I don’t think that there are many government agencies who wants to be associated with Big Brother. 😛

    Hi Caroline.

    I have a self hosted directory / community website that I’m about to rebuild in WordPress. I would love to use this theme but it doesn’t seem to be available on WordPress.org.

    Is there a possibilty of using this theme via WordPress.org?

    I’m not very technical, just want to know if it’s possible to do.

    I really love this theme and having been using it for a day or so. However today my menu is not displaying properly – the dropdown options will not show up and each menu heading is hyperlinked? Why is this? I really do not want to have to start over with a new theme.

    Like the theme BUT the demo sure does not work on IE8. If I want to convert my web site to a WordPress site, then it must support IE8, just too many users on my site still use that browser.

    The majority of users on my site are IE users and IE8 is the most used browser, so I need a theme that works for these users. I have heard all of the comments about old browsers but we put up web sites for users and not for web developers.

    I love the simplicity. The typography — the headline font and body type font — makes this about as clean and easy to read as you can get. I’m going to try it on one of my blogs or websites. Of course this theme looks very plain vanilla, but I like vanilla (simplicity). With a custom header image you can give it a distinctive look. I like having the title incorporated in the header image, if it’s the right image.
